Completion of advance directives (ADs) is an important part of identifying a patient’s treatment preferences. Lack of patient understanding regarding the scope and importance of advance directives is a common barrier to AD completion. This project reports on the effectiveness of a patient education intervention in facilitating patient understanding in an outpatient dialysis facility in rural Virginia. Thirty patients were selected by convenience sampling to participate in a 10-minute verbal presentation based on a brochure entitled “Advance Care Planning: Tips from the National Institute on Aging” and completed two short questionnaires, one before and one after the education session. Background While supplemental oxygen is routinely administered during anesthesia to prevent oxygen desaturation and optimize tissue oxygenation, oxygen delivery practices after intubation are largely unknown. Compiled evidence suggests limiting intraoperative fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO2) to below 60%. The deleterious effects of hyperoxia and the mortality benefit of conservative oxygen administration are being demonstrated in contemporary critical care literature. Methods: This study used a questionnaire, with the core research design having a quantitative component using open-ended questions, via the use of an electronic platform. This quality improvement project was designed to increase staff adherence to an existing Pitocin titration protocol used in a labor and delivery unit at a community hospital. In the current U.S. health care climate, safe patient care is paramount and the Institute for Safe Medication Practices identified Pitocin as a high-alert medication. Background Postoperative nausea and vomiting remains a common and unpleasant side effect for patients following surgery. Uncontrolled PONV can result in prolonged hospital stays, unanticipated hospital readmissions, and decreased patient satisfaction. The Apfel score identifies and counts independent risk factors for PONV; females, non-smokers, postoperative opioid use, and history of PONV or motion sickness. Rates of PONV increases as the number of risk factors increase. The primary intervention to decrease PONV is administration of prophylactic antiemetics. Trauma-induced coagulopathy (TIC) is a medical emergency requiring effective correction of pathophysiological issues. TIC is antagonized by a lethal triad of factors including hypothermia, acidosis, and coagulopathy. This triad is a vicious cycle that is not seen in every patient that has experienced a physical trauma. However, if it is present, mortality rates quadruple(Phillips, Mohorn, Bookstaver, Ezekiel, & Watson, 2017). Effective correction of this triad can be successfully obtained with the utilization of thromboelastography (TEG). However, the processes through which the various factors influence this relationship is not fully known. Guided by Social Action Theory, we examined the interactive mechanisms through which depression, HIV-related stigma, and self-efficacy influenced ART adherence and whether or not these relationships are moderated by gender. Diabetes selfcare (DSC) is an integrated part in diabetes management. The aim of this study was to analyze the correlation between DSC with PEDIS (perfusion, extend, depth, infection, sensation) score and glycemic control in diabetes patients. This study applied a cross sectional design, involving 106 patients, the inclusions are patient diabetes type 1 and 2 with or without diabetic foot ulcers who are < 65 years old, can read, write and use Bahasa. This research was conducted in the Community Health Center of West Denpasar II Bali. The statistic analyze used are Mann Whitney, and Chi square Statistics showed a significant association between DSC and PEDIS score (p= 0.0005) a strong correlation (r= -0.74) and glycemic control (p= 0.0005) a moderate correlation (0.451). DSC can be used predict the condition of diabetic foot ulcers through the PEDIS score and predict glycemic control in diabetes. In Orem’s self-care theory, self-care is a health resource in individual. The strategy of diabetes self-care requires awareness and responsibility in managing diabetes for controlling blood sugar and adequate foot care.
