Ineffective discharge education plays a role in increased readmission rates, adverse drug events, and worsened patient outcomes post-hospitalization. When combined, the resulting financial burden on America’s healthcare system is exorbitant, as is the physical and mental toll on unsuspecting patients. To close the current gaps in discharge teaching, this project is incorporating the teach-back method and utilizing updated medication handouts.

There is a 42% prevalence of diabetes among Jamaicans (Ministry of Health, Jamaica Health and Lifestyle Survey, 2018). The survey found that Jamaicans will continue to face challenges of diabetes and its complication as approximately four out of ten Jamaicans are unaware that they have diabetes, and thus delay receiving healthcare.

Limited health literacy is predominant among the diabetic Jamaican population and negatively affects health outcomes (Singh & Aiken, 2017). PMG Oregon currently schedules approximately 60,000 New Patient visits each year. New patients are often seen at their first visit, with very little, and/or, without most up-to-date medical information transferred to their new clinical care team. The delay or lack of information results in challenges to our clinic teams to provide the best care for our new patients. It also results in providers/care teams spending additional time entering clinical data either during the new patient appointment, after the appointment, and often additional appointments are needed to address patient problems that could be completed in the initial visit.

Purpose: Childhood obesity is a significant health problem associated with increased adult morbidity and mortality. Rural areas like Central Valley California demonstrate disproportionate rates of obesity. Children in rural and underserved populations are at a higher risk of developing obesity. Data suggest that obesity is often under-addressed during routine health care visits. This descriptive correlational study examined the relationships between and among diabetes self-care, diabetes time management, and diabetes distress in women with type 2 (T2DM). A gap of knowledge exists between these variables and this study, guided by Orem’s self-care theory, aimed to identify these relationships and predictors of diabetes self-care. The sample (N = 188) was comprised of predominately White (81.4%) women recruited from multiple office locations, community hospitals, and diabetes support groups predominately from the Mid-Atlantic Region (64.04%). Design:A quantitative non-experimental descriptive design was followed.

This research study describes the potential relationship between perceived high stress levels and failure in high-stakes performance testing in a baccalaureate undergraduate nursing environment. In addition, it determines if there is a marked difference between perceived stress levels in accelerated and traditional students. To answer these questions, the researcher administered the Cohen’s self-report Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) to baccalaureate nursing students fifteen minutes before high-stakes performance skills competency testing. Of 102 voluntary participants, 33 were of the accelerated nursing track and 69 were of the traditional track. Encompassing both groups, nine students failed the skills competency test.

Social, economic, and environmental factors contribute to patients’ recovery following hospitalization. However, little is known about how home health nurses make decisions based on their assessment of these factors. The purpose of the current study was to explore the nonclinical factors that home health nurses evaluate and describe how these factors influence care planning decisions. Semi-structured inter-views conducted with 20 visiting nurses from three home health agencies were analyzed using conven-tional content analysis. Three nonclinical factor themes emerged: Social Support, Home Environment and Neighborhood, and Finances and Insurance Barriers. Significance of the Problem: Today’s healthcare environment requires new nurses to have strong clinical judgment skills upon entry to practice. Contributing to this problem are the challenges faced by prelicensure nursing programs that include faculty shortages and the decreasing availability of clinical spaces. Simulation activities offer hands-on clinical learning opportunities in the place of traditional clinical experiences. However, simulation labs are costly to develop and maintain, which impacts student learning opportunities. Prebriefing, an understudied area of simulation, provides educators with another clinical exercise to facilitate students’ growth in clinical judgment.
