Advanced Practice Providers: How Do We Improve Their Organizational Engagement?, Molly Condit, Paula Hafeman

Advanced practice providers (APPs) are integral members of the multidisciplinary health care team, providing access to high quality and cost-effective patient care. Despite the consistent increase in demand for APPs, these practitioners often lack role clarity, frequently resulting in poor job satisfaction and retention. Establishing an advanced practice provider council within organizations is a positive step in providing APPs with a platform for increasing their visibility, peer support, and decision-making power, thereby improving their engagement within the organization.

To estimate the effects of women’s weight changes in four sequential perinatal periods across first and second pregnancies (pregravid, first gestation, interpregnancy, second gestation) on adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes in the second pregnancy while accounting for interdependencies in weight across the four periods (Aim 1) and to test the influence of the sequential path of weight changes through the four perinatal periods of risk on maternal and neonatal outcomes in the second pregnancy (Aim 2).

Purpose: The purpose of the two studies was to develop a text message intervention and examine its effects on lowering perceived stress and increasing coping self-efficacy among nursing students. We also explored stress perceptions and investigated student satisfaction with the text message stress management program. Individuals with developmental disabilities experience many barriers to healthcare and are at a substantially higher risk for sexual assault and trauma. There is a need for more inclusive and collaborative healthcare policies, practices, and education to guide healthcare providers during their encounters with individuals with developmental disabilities as patients, especially during forensic examinations following sexual assault and trauma. A vegetarian diet is believed to prevent hypertension. This study aims to identify the impact of vegetarian diets, including fat, salt, potassium, and body mass index (BMI), on hypertension. Data was taken by systematic random sampling method from 173 vegetarians and analyzed using chi-square. The result showed that there is no significant association between the intake of fat, sodium, and potassium with hypertension in vegetarians (p> 0.05). However, there is a significant relationship between BMI with the incidence of hypertension (p= 0.025), where overweight res-pondents are 3.837 more likely to have hypertension (OR 3.837; 95% CI= 1,256–11,721). A retrospective audit of the performance of nurses and carers regarding falls prevention among older adults was used. Problem: Patients who miss appointments have poorer health outcomes and increase costs for medical care. The purpose of this quality improvement study was to evaluate the effects of missed appointments on patients’ outcomes for diabetes mellitus, and resulting financial losses to a private primary care practice.

Method: A quality improvement initiative with a retrospective review of patients over a six-month period in 2018 (before) and 2019 (after a missed appointment fee was implemented). All adult patients, aged 18-92 years, were included. For those with diabetes, a HbA1c for each patient who kept or missed their appointment was recorded.

The purpose of this study was to understand the meaning of online co-teaching for PhD faculty and teaching assistants (TAs). Narrative pedagogy underpinned the inquiry, which was designed to advance the discourse on mentorship of PhD future faculty. A faculty member and TA authors kept concurrent weekly journals or after-the-fact written reflections. The authors analyzed data as a team using a five-phase interpretive phenomenological analysis process to interpret the meaning of co-teaching for faculty and TAs. Serum amyloid A (SAA) proteins are acute-phase reactant associated with high-density lipoprotein (HDL) particles and increase in the plasma 1000-fold during inflammation. Recent studies have implicated SAAs in innate immunity and various disorders; however, the precise mechanism eludes us. Previous studies have shown SAAs are elevated following stroke and cerebral ischemia, and our studies demonstrated that SAA-deficient mice reduce inflammation and infarct volumes in a mouse stroke model. Our studies demonstrate that SAA increases the cytokine interleukin-1β (IL-1β), which is mediated by Nod-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome, cathepsin B, and caspase-1 and may play a role in the pathogenesis …
