Background: Pain assessment in critically ill patients using an evidence-based and reliable tool is crucial in providing pain management and promoting recovery of the patients in the Intensive Care Units (ICU). Inadequate pain management can have short-term and long-term complications. Critical Care Pain Observation Tool (CPOT) has been rigorously tested and has been recommended as a valid and reliable pain assessment tool by the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American Association of Critical Care Medicine.

Patient no-show appointments negatively affect healthcare services impacting medical providers, staff, healthcare systems, and patients. No-show appointments are associated with increased health risks to the patient as well as poor provider and staff utilization, productivity, and efficiency. NorthBay’s Urology Clinic in Fairfield, CA has experienced increased no-show rates as high as 22% since 2015 despite its use of automated appointment reminders. The use of simulation as a teaching and learning stratagem is well supported in the professional literature. The development of a collaborative care best practices model (CCBPM) was undertaken to help the creation and implementation of an interprofessional education (IPE) learning strategy between occupational therapy assistant (OTA) and pre-licensure nursing students at a private liberal arts college. The project goals and outcomes involved faculty development, CCBPM development, and OTA and nursing novice student competency acquisition in their respective professions. Background: LGBT+ populations account for 4% of the US population, yet health disparities persist, which are considered a priority in health care systems. In nursing education programs, the allotment in time to cover LGBT+ health content is not mandated thus ranges from zero to several hours total in nursing curricula. Therefore, nursing students’ education regarding LGBT+ health issues remains minimal and inconsistent throughout the nation’s nursing programs.

Untethered Lecture Capture (ULC), a technology-enhanced teaching strategy, permits faculty to be freely mobile in the classroom (untethered) while simultaneously teaching and creating audiovisual media assets (lecture capture). Faculty, representing nine disciplines, implemented ULC in undergraduate courses. Qualitative content analysis resulted in three themes. Undergraduate participants (n¼23) reported ULC supports accessibility and education affordances, enhancing personalized, self-paced learning, and equal opportunities for academic success. Untethered faculty teach on our turf, teaching among rather than talking at students, enhancing time-on-task, in-class focus, and learner socialization. Understanding and retention were perceived as improved when multimedia instruction principles were integrated in the classroom.

Lack of acute-care hospital non-psychiatric nurses’ confidence and competence with suicidality has been reported in the literature. Evidence supports multi-modal education to increase recall and improve outcomes. The theory of self-efficacy included concepts of confidence as well as competence and served as the project’s theoretical underpinning. A descriptive design was utilized to examine the effects of an education intervention using various methodologies addressing suicide risk factors, prevention, management, and safe care on nurses’ perceived level of self-efficacy. Accelerated baccalaureate nursing students are at an increased risk for stress due to the fast pace and intensity of the program. The purpose of this research was to examine the perceived stresses and coping strategies of accelerated baccalaureate nursing students. The Student Nurse Stress Index (SNSI), (Jones & Johnston, 1999) and a qualitative question on coping strategies were completed by 24 ABSN students in an online survey. Results showed students perceived academic factors as the most stressful and first semester students had higher stress level scores than final semester students. This study explored the issue of medical-surgical unit nurse turnover and strategies to create nurse retention. The goal of this study was to provide nursing administrators with data that shows the cause of nurse turnover in this nursing specialty. The hypothesis was that there will be findings to indicate that medical-surgical nurses are at increased risk for employment turnover due to increased patient load and patient turnover. To study this concept, the Revised Casey-Fink Nurse Retention Survey was utilized. The results of the survey were revealed, and recommendations were made that may lead to nurse retention on the medical-surgical unit.

Good research data supports epidural analgesia shorts first stage of labor, lengthens second stage, increases instrumental delivery but no increased risk for cesarean delivery.
