Antibiotic misuse and overuse are major contributors to antibiotic resistance which is responsible for the death of 23,000 American’s annually. There is a growing body of evidence that antibiotic stewardship programs are successful in reducing antibiotic prescribing rates while maintaining safe patient care. Research supports a multifaceted approach with an ongoing commitment to antibiotic stewardship. Background: A review of newly arriving refugees referred to the local health department for latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) treatment during 2013-2015 revealed a treatment gap of 73%, supporting the need to identify new approaches to treat vulnerable populations and mirrored results in the literature.

Objectives: 1) Describe an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) led alternative approach to LTBI treatment in the refugee population; and 2) evaluate the impact of a 12-week regimen for LTBI on treatment acceptance, adherence and completion.

According to the 2011 US Bureau of Justice Statistics report, medical professionals experienced the third highest proportion of workplace violence (WPV), with violence primarily emanating from patient. Background: In August 2017, a local outbreak of Hepatitis A was identified among homeless individuals in Louisville, Kentucky. This marked the first cases in what has now become recognized as the largest Hepatitis A outbreak in the US. When infection was identified in a Food Service Worker (FSW), vaccination efforts were expanded to target this group.

Objective: This qualitative descriptive exploratory study aimed to explore the lived experiences of married Pakistani women, 2 years post-mastectomy.
Methods: Twelve participants were recruited through purposive sampling from outpatient oncology clinic from a tertiary care hospital in Pakistan. Interviews were audio-taped and transcribed, and then themes and sub-themes were identified.
Results: Women verbalized a range of their experiences throughout the span from diagnosis to mastectomy. One over arching theme, quality of life and four main themes and their subthemes emerged from the data. Following are the themes; from history to diagnosis, worries, coping strategies, and recommendations.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Pain management for hip fracture patients in the time before surgery is crucial. Literature highlights the success of local, single injection nerve blocks to aid in preoperative pain management. A local hospital implemented a preoperative, single injection nerve block protocol in March 2018. This quality improvement project investigated: (1) organization protocol compliance, and (2) if the preoperative single injection nerve block protocol reduces hip fracture pain, use of systemic opioid analgesics, decreases incidence of adverse opioid effects, and reduces cost of care.

Peer support increases breastfeeding rates (Shakya, 2017). An evidence-based implementation toolkit will provide key stakeholders the information and skill development needed to successfully implement and sustain peer support programs geared toward increasing breastfeeding rates for African American women in West Michigan. Rural America creates a challenging, poorly financed environment for pediatric health. More than 20 million Americans live in areas with physician shortages too great to meet basic health need (Petlz et al., 2013). In comparing rural versus urban data, rural population experience a 7% higher rate of chronic health conditions (44% versus 37%), increased inpatient costs ($8, 507 versus $7, 174) and higher odds ratios for pediatric 30-day readmission. A quantitative, cross-sectional study.

Setting

Online survey.

Participants

Young women between the ages of 18 and 24 years (N = 342).

We used an online survey to collect data from young women regarding their demographic characteristics, their self-perceived and actual knowledge about fertility, and their fertility health risk factors. We used multiple linear regression to explore the relationships among these factors.
