Objectives: To examine the effects of implementing a patient progression coordinator (PPC) on hospital length of stay (LOS) for patients with ST-elevated myocardial infarction (STEMI), ischemic stroke, knee replacement, and hip replacement.

The effects of LEP are well documented in the literature. LEP decreases medication adherence, causes ineffective communication between patients and providers, and reduces health outcomes. Asthma is known to be misdiagnosed and under-treated in Hispanic adults. There are discrepancies in the literature about the effects of LEP in Hispanic adults with persistent asthma.

The purpose of this study was to determine if the presence of LEP is associated with medication adherence behaviors and adverse asthma outcomes in Hispanic adults with moderate to severe persistent asthma. The transfusion of blood products can lead to life-threatening complications after surgery. In addition, blood products are a scarce and expensive resource. Even though anemia in coronary artery bypass surgery patients is currently undertreated, research has shown that the intravenous infusion of iron products, as well as a single dose of erythropoietin-alpha prior to surgery, decreases the amount of blood products used in the perioperative setting.
