Video capture of simulation provides observation from a wide-angle view. This study introduced a new technique, “patient-perspective” video capture, using a camera mounted into eyeglasses allowing learners to view their nonverbal and verbal communication through the patient’s eyes and to compare this to the wide-angle view. The participants (n = 29) were Nurse Practitioner students. The majority were female (93.2%), with a mean age of 36.8, SD = 12.31. The sample consisted of Millennials (65.6%), Generation Xers (13.8%), and Baby Boomers (20.7%). The average number of years of nursing practice was 9.89. Aim: This paper outlines the project planning, implementation and evaluation of a project aimed at improving the communication competency of perioperative nurse managers. Leadership development consisted of providing education and simulation practice to managers of the operating room (OR), pre and post anesthesia recovery (PACU) area and sterile processing (SPD). The goal was to improve the OR turnover time, cost per OR hour, patient access and the perception of the participants in their ability and willingness to speak up.

The use of a Time Out checklist for patient safety in non-operating room procedural areas is equally important for positive patient outcomes as in the operating room (OR). In this busy southwestern United States hospital, the procedural teams in the non-operating room areas were reported to not be fully engaged during the performance of the Time Out pre-procedural pause prior to gastroenterological (GI) procedures. For the past decade, there have been many changes to school nursing with the implementation of unlicensed assistant personnel now known as paraprofessionals. This process has brought about several concerns such as mode of delegation, education, training, ability to monitor health-care needs, and organizational effects that trended downward without direction. This qualitative inquiry gave an interpretative meaning to the process of delegation in school nursing, the factors that hinder the delegation process as well as components that are needed to effectively delegate and utilize support staff (paraprofessionals) without detrimental effects to students. Purpose: To use a nurse-communication intervention for timely provider notification of abnormal chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis infections, to reduce delays in treatment at a large Northeastern United States hospital. Methods: The hospital’s communicable disease report was reviewed daily, and treatment of all patients who were seen in the Infectious Disease clinic and diagnosed with chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis infections was monitored. Emails were sent to inform treating providers whenever a patient was not treated within 72 hours after diagnosis. PURPOSE: The primary objective of this project was to determine if specific interventions, to include education, rounding, and regular meetings, improved collaboration and communication for nurse/physician dyads working in acute care hospital administrative roles.

METHODS: The study employed a prospective pre-test and post-test comparison of participants’ scores on a validated survey tool. This tool (JeffSATIC) measured perception of collaboration between nurses and physicians. The objective was to evaluate the differences in these scores in participants before and after an intervention.

This Doctor of Nursing Practice Project examined the effect of an evidence-based staff development education program on the attitudes and knowledge levels of nursing staff regarding the mentally ill adolescent patient population, for which they provide treatment and supervision. A convenience sample of 61 nursing staff members participated in the Improving Therapeutic Relationships among Psychiatric Nursing Staff and Patients project, with 74% of the available sample completing all project surveys.
