The Perceptions Of Success Of Latino Nursing School Graduates In The Appalachian Region Of The United States, Barbara M. Rauscher

This qualitative narrative descriptive study focused on nine successful Latino nursing school graduates. Five participants were interviewed twice and four participants were interviewed once for a total of fourteen interviews. Participants and their families immigrated from Brazil, Costa Rica, Cuba, and Mexico. Participants attended school in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Interviews revealed themes of Familism, Empowerment, and Perseverance. Familism was an overriding theme throughout each of the interviews. Participants described family as being their greatest support. They discussed sacrifices made by their families which assisted them in being successful. The landmark 2015 report from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) posited that too many women of reproductive age received prescribed opioids. This is significant because fetal exposure to a known teratogen can have catastrophic outcomes. Furthermore, women are often ambivalent about birth control and many pregnancies are unplanned. Fortunately, women identify interactions with health care providers as acceptable cues for preconception decision making. Data has shown that Medicaid populations are disproportionately prescribed opioids compared to insured populations. However, the CDC defines reproductive status by age only. Design: This doctoral research explored the role of the frontline nurse leader. The research was a quantitative survey, non-experimental, descriptive, cross-sectional onetime study. The survey studied the self-assessment of the frontline nurse leader's role and their rating of noted complexities and challenges in their role.

Many new graduate residency programs exist supporting new registered nurses (RN) transition from theory to practice, but what is not reported in the literature are programs for RNs transitioning in practice to specialty care units, such as the emergency department. Furthermore, literature addressing the use of multiple teaching modalities as a method in course work is limited. A quasi-experimental design study explored the influence a multiple teaching modalities course on the knowledge and self-confidence of newly trained emergency department nurses. This project explores why African American men choose Ostrich Behavior when it comes to health care prevention and maintenance as related to hypertension. The population was African American men, ages18–80, in Northern California. Men were recruited while getting a haircut or waiting for one or after church services. Blood pressure readings were taken and a health questionnaire was administered. The results show that even if hypertension is known, men ages 18–45 go to fewer office visits than African American men in other age groups, and older men tend to seek medical care and take medication if prescribed.

Purpose: This study aimed to develop a culture-centered diabetes education program (CCDEP) for Nigerian immigrants to assess knowledge and attitudes on Diabetes Mellitus (DM).

Design: A descriptive pretest-posttest interventional study was deployed that used Microsoft Excel Analysis. There were 40 participants from a convenience sample from Western New York who received an hour CCDEP that instructed them on culture-centered DM care: tailored context, healthy dietary substitutes, stress management, and physical activities. A pretest measured the participants’ baseline knowledge and attitudes, and a posttest was given after the intervention.

One contributing factor to the scarcity in rural areas is the increasing numbers of RNs commuting away from rural communities for employment—14% in 1980 to 37% in 2004 (Skillman, Palazzo, Doescher, & Butterfield, 2012).

Acute care settings continue to be the primary setting for undergraduate nursing education clinical experiences. Staff nurses in acute care settings are expected to provide nursing care with pre-licensure nursing students at their side (even though there are little to no incentives for staff nurses to provide mentoring leadership), which most often takes the form of professional role modeling. In addition, there is no clear evaluative expectation that motivates staff nurses to provide contextual role modeling. In this work, the ceramic coating separator (CCS-CS) prepared with polyethylene (PE) separator, Al₂O₃ inorganic particles, carboxymethyl cellulose sodium (CMC) and styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) mix binders is further modified by coating with a thin polydopamine (PDA) layer through a simple chemical deposition method. Compared with the bare ceramic coating separator, the PDA-modified CCS-CS (CCS-CS-PDA) exhibits excellent thermal stability, which shows no thermal shrinkage after storing at 200 °C for 30 min. Compared with the PE separator, both the uptake and wettability with the electrolyte and water of CCS-CS-PDA are improved significantly. This descriptive qualitative study examined perceived barriers to health care among Chuukese migrant women in Guam and explored which factors influenced health-seeking behaviors. Study participants recommended interventions which may reduce those perceived barriers.
