Workers in healthcare systems are predisposed to work-related stress based on moral factors. Stress results when nurses are exposed to ambiguous moral situations, or when they are prevented by hospitals or their employees from doing what they ought to do. Such experiences have been described as stress of conscience because they give rise to a troubled conscience. Empirical studies indicate that health care employees, including nurses, sometimes refer to stress of conscience when faced with ethically difficult situations related to patient care.

The purpose of this theoretical paper is to explore the ethics in a community nursing. Nursing, a practice discipline recognizes caring, morals, and values as integral to the practice of all nurses. The ethical principles of beneficence, autonomy, advocacy, and social justice will be discussed from the lens of caring. Caring nursing theorists, such as Jean Watson, Ann Boykin, and Savina Schoenhofer, articulate the importance of understanding communities and individuals as whole and autonomous. These theorists and others challenge nursing to engage in a responsive, ethical and philosophical discourse when the community is viewed as autonomous.

Despite numerous criticisms in the literature on the ethics and sustainable outcomes of short term international mission trips, there can be positive outcomes for volunteers and for recipients of short term mission care efforts. Utilizing a theoretical framework that addresses efforts to promote sustainability can lead to a structured, productive, and satisfying experience. With effective host country partnerships and an organized model of care delivery, international mission volunteers can provide highly effective health care services that are specific to the health and cultural needs of the host community.

Occupation-related stress has been a long-standing concern of the health care industry. Studies indicate that health care workers have higher rates of substance abuse and suicide than other professionals and elevated rates of depression and anxiety linked to job stress. In addition to psychological distress, other outcomes of job stress include burnout, absenteeism, employee intent to leave, reduced patient satisfaction, and diagnosis and treatment errors. Mindfulness interventions, such as practicing yoga on a regular basis, have been found to be effective in reducing work-related stress by multiple researchers. Difficulty initiating and maintaining sleep is one of the most common health complaints of the general population. Approximately 35-50% of people experience occasional insomnia symptoms (Walsh et al., 2011) while 12-20% have insomnia disorder (Morin, et al., 2011; Roth et al., 2011). An effective treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I; Schutte-Rodin, Broch, Buysse, Dorsey, & Sateia, 2008), a nonpharmacological, evidence-based intervention aimed at changing sleep behaviors. This paper compares the aggressiveness of nursing behavioral intentions in the care of the end-of-life patient between 1989 and 2014. Using a comparison design the effects of patient age, presence of a DNR order and nursing unit norms on the aggressiveness of nursing behavioral intentions were documented in 1989 and again in 2014. The results were compared for significant changes over time. Based on the results of this study, it appears that there has been a significant increase in aggressiveness of nursing behavioral intentions in the care of the end of life patient, even if the patient has a …

Background. Worldwide, workplace sexual violence affects more than 50% of women; 33% are harassed, 8% are raped, and approximately 40% of workplace deaths are the result of homicide. In the United States, the majority of these deaths are related to intimate partner violence. Background. Sexual assault affects one in five women, worldwide, across their lifetime; approximately 22 million women in the United States (US). Only twenty-seven percent of the assaults are reported to the police. In the US, approximately 8% of the sexual assaults on women occur in the workplace; late hours of the night or early morning hours, working alone, working in isolated areas, working with the public, and working in a mobile workplace place women at an increased risk. The plain Anabaptists are thought to differ from mainstream U.S. health care beliefs and practices. Many non-Anabaptist health care providers have limited knowledge of the specific health beliefs and preferences of Anabaptists, which can lead to misunderstandings. The purpose of this descriptive qualitative study was to collect information from Anabaptist community members related to health care beliefs and preferences in their communities. Participants, who were members of various plain Anabaptist communities, completed a questionnaire containing open-ended questions about health issues. Background: Idaho ranks last of all states for per capita spending on mental health treatment (Kaiser Family Foundation, 2014). In Idaho, individuals in crisis who suffer from mental illness or Substance Use Disorder (SUD) have few options for care. They often utilize the most expensive treatment through the emergency department, inpatient services, or by going to jail. Idaho has the 7^th highest suicide rate in the nation (Suicide Prevention Action Network of Idaho, 2015), while Region 1 of Idaho has the second highest suicide rate in the state from 2010-2014 (Suicide Prevention Action Network of Idaho, 2015).

Trauma assessment is a core skill for all United States Air Force nurses. However, with the recent withdrawals from Iraq and Afghanistan, there are serious concerns about how Air Force nurses can maintain high-level trauma skills without the frequent exposure and opportunities in which to perform them. Although training affiliation agreements with local civilian trauma centers exist, it is difficult to routinely send nurses to receive training in these facilities due to time constraints. Simulation is a feasible way to provide essential training and allows participants to practice critical skills during reproducible scenarios in a realistic but non-threatening environment. BACKGROUND: There is increasing evidence that mobile phone health interventions ("mHealth") can improve health behaviors and outcomes and are critically important in low-resource, low-access settings. However, the majority of mHealth programs in developing countries fail to reach scale. One reason may be the challenge of developing financially sustainable programs. The goal of this paper is to explore strategies for mHealth program sustainability and develop cost-recovery models for program implementers using 2014 operational program data from Mobile for Reproductive Health (m4RH), a national text-message (SMS) based health communication service in Tanzania.

The recent publication of an article that is listed as a Critical Issue in the Journal of Dental Hygiene deserves strong letters of endorsement from nursing professionals. It has been twelve years since the Institute of Medicine called for interprofessional education to be adopted by the health professional education community. The increasing numbers of dentists in dental programs and the decreasing numbers of physicians in medical programs lend itself for dentists and physicians to be supportive of such interprofessional collaborations.

Bundle Vs. Non-Bundle: Looking At Differences In Care And Outcomes At A Skilled Nursing Facility, Georgia Tsmasiros

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) introduced the Bundled Payments for Care Improvement Initiative (BPCI) in 2013 in an effort for consumers to have higher quality and more coordinated care. This research compared the care and outcomes of four individuals with bundled payment insurance plans and four non-bundle insured individuals with the same diagnosis, accessing rehabilitation services at a skilled nursing facility. The results show no observable differences between the outcomes of individuals with a bundled insurance plan and individuals without a bundled insurance plan. The financial implications are negative for healthcare agencies participating in BPCI who must …

Psoriasis is a common, chronic, autoimmune inflammatory disease that affects a substantial number of women annually during pregnancy and childbirth. Some of these women will need and seek guidance before or during their pregnancies and during lactation. The childbirth educator needs a basic knowledge base and ability to answer questions that may arise regarding psoriasis during the childbirth experience. This article will define psoriasis and its effects on pregnancy and childbirth, consider genetic concerns, and explore treatment options.
