Development Of Clinical Judgement For Hispanic And Non-Hispanic Nursing Students: A Comparison Of Traditional And Simulated Clinical Experiences, Eve Marie Rodriguez

A mixed method design evaluating for differences in students development of clinical judgment based on clinical experiences. Traditional, combination, and high fidelity simulation clinical experiences were compared. Weekly evaluations based on the Lasater Clinical Judgment Rubric were compared. Students participated in focus interviews at the completion of the study to determine perceptions of the clinical experience in terms of clinical judgment development. There were no differences based on qualitative and quantitative measures. Students in all three groups increased in clinical judgment scores and reported satisfaction in the individual clinical experience.

Awareness of the plight of children and adolescents who are sexually exploited and trafficked for financial gain has gradually garnered the attention of the public, law enforcement, and health care providers. The discussion is slowly changing to recognize these exploited children and adolescents as victims and not criminals. Marginalization of this population is slowly changing to advocacy. Management Of Bipolar I Depression: Clinical Utility Of Lurasidone, Lillian Jan Findlay, Peggy El-Mallakh, Rif S. El-Mallakh

Lurasidone is a benzisothiazol derivative second-generation antipsychotic. It has been approved in the United States and Europe for treatment of acute schizophrenia and bipolar depression. In type I bipolar subjects, treatment with lurasidone monotherapy of adjunctive therapy to lithium or valproic acid with doses of 20 to 120 mg once daily with food, results in statistically and clinically significant reduction of depressive symptoms. Patients experience relatively few side effects, which include somnolence, akathisia, nausea, and other gastrointestinal upset. Dopamine related side effects, such as Parkinsonism and elevated prolactin, are rare and mild. Longer term safety data obtained in 6 months …

This case report concerns a woman diagnosed with a bicornuate uterus with ovarian torsion. She had been married for seven years and had conceived three times, giving birth to two live babies and had onespontaneous abortion. She was presently admitted to the hospital with complaints of pain in the left iliac fossa,which she had had for two hours before admission along with vomiting, severe bleeding, and burning micturition.During the abdominal examination, left iliac tenderness was present. Introduction: The White Ribbon Alliance for safe motherhood believes respectful maternity care is the universal right of every childbearing woman.
Methods: NHRC in 2012 approved an inquiry of respectful care at facility-based childbirth. Individual-, focus group interviews and content analysis was used for gathering and analysis of data.
Findings: The participating women and the SBAs shared similar views, and this was that together the SBAs and relatives ensured the women remained within the comfort and safety zone when giving birth in a tertiary level maternity unit.

Introduction: The patriarchal Afghan society has thousands of years of history. For most parts it has been governed by its tribal systems. The society has systematically evolved with its thousands of years old tradition, which has resulted in the subjugation of women. Although it is widely assumed that the midwifery education program (MEP) has contributed to female empowerment, no formal investigation has been carried out that explores the actual impact of MEP on the status of women midwifery graduates. Therefore, this study systematically explores the trickle down effects of MEP on women’s empowerment.

Novice post-licensure nurses are frequently exposed to microethical nursing practice problems during their first 24 months of formative practice. Often, novice nurses trust the advice of experienced nurse coworkers, deferring to such advice even when they know the advice contradicts evidence-based practice. This study revealed the prevalence of deference behaviors and associated rationale. Study findings emphasize the importance of incorporating conflict management, effective communication techniques, ethical frameworks, and EBP standards within pre- and post-licensure education.

The purpose of this study was to determine if there was an association between the parent’s knowledge of child passenger safety laws and the use of child passenger safety restraints. A review of current literature demonstrates barriers to incorrect use of child passenger safety seats. The purpose of this Capstone Project study was to answer the question: Does self-care education improve knowledge and decrease 30 day readmission rates in a class of heart failure patients that are at high risk for exacerbation? The study used a randomized control design with a pre-test/post-test. A convenience sample of 50 African Americans diagnosed with heart failure were entered; control group (n=25) and experimental group (n=25). Breastfeeding is recognized as the gold standard for infant nutrition. Women enrolled in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) give birth to over half of the infants born in the US and over 50% of manufactured formula is sold to WIC participants. The aim of this study was to determine the breastfeeding self-efficacy score and to evaluate if there was a relationship between breastfeeding self-efficacy scores and initiation and duration of breastfeeding in a sample of women enrolled in a WIC program. Patients who suffer minor brain injuries experience unnecessary ionizing radiation in the form of a non-contrast head CT scan despite the dearth of evidence supporting standard CT scans for all brain injuries. Exposure to ionizing radiation increases the incidence of certain types of cancer. This evidence-based practice change project assesses the attitude of clinicians towards evidence-based clinical decision support tools, specifically the Canadian CT head rule. The use of highly sensitive clinical decision support tools is supported in the literature to help healthcare providers mitigate the risk associated with unnecessary use of CT scan imaging studies. Drawing from social identity theory, this study investigated certified nurse assistant’s perceived belongingness, attachment to their organizations, and intentions to leave their jobs. Healthcare reform was the public policy guiding this study. Our findings indicated affective commitment to the organization partially mediated the relationship between organizational identification and turnover intentions.
