Tissue Plasminogen Activator And Stroke Recurrence: An Integrative Literature Review, Leann Podskalan
Grace Peterson Nursing Research Colloquium
Abstract
Background: Acute ischemic stroke is becoming a prevalent problem in our country debilitating many individuals annually. With administration of t-PA in these individuals within the appropriate time frame of symptom onset, cognitive and physical disability can be minimized. Research suggests that t-PA administration within 3 to 4.5 hours of symptom onset can also decrease the occurrence of future acute ischemic stroke.
Objectives: The objective of this integrative literature review is to investigate the potential for recurrence of future ischemic strokes in the case of patients experiencing an acute ischemic stroke that receive t-PA treatment within the allotted administration window. …
Risk Factors And Therapies For Vascular Dementia: An Integrative Review Of The Literature, Lauren Davis
Risk Factors And Therapies For Vascular Dementia: An Integrative Review Of The Literature, Lauren Davis
Grace Peterson Nursing Research Colloquium
Background: Dementia, a result of vascular disease, leads to vascular cognitive impairment. There are a variety of disease processes and mechanisms thought to contribute to vascular dementia. As the population continues to age, the cost and burden to care for those with dementia will grow exponentially. There are currently few studies that consider therapies for this disease as there is no known cure.
Objectives: The purpose of this integrative literature review is to identify the risk factors and health behaviors that contribute to vascular dementia. A secondary objective is to review the proposed treatments for vascular dementia.
Method: A search …

Availability and Nursing Implementation of Measurement Tools in the Co-Occurrence of Depression and Chronic Pain: An Integrative Literature Review
Ashley Thomas
Faculty Sponsor: Barbara Harris
Background: There is high correlation between chronic pain and depression. They are seen throughout the literature to interact and feedback symptoms upon each other. However, there is not a comprehensive screening tool that assess both symptoms and not a clear indication of nursing responsibility in assessment of the co-occurrence.
Objectives: The purpose of this literature review is to create a comprehensive review of current research concerning the availability of screening tools that measure the co-occurrence …
Tertiary Interventions For Child Survivors Of Adverse Childhood Experiences, William Shuman
Tertiary Interventions For Child Survivors Of Adverse Childhood Experiences, William Shuman
Grace Peterson Nursing Research Colloquium
Abstract
Background: Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) have been shown to have long term detrimental effects on health of those who experience them. There is research that links ACEs and poor health outcomes, some of which are caused by health harming behaviors, which are more common in those who experience ACEs. Intervening early and through teaching appropriate coping strategies to children who experience ACEs could be a way to decrease their poor health outcomes.
Objectives: The purpose of this integrative review of the literature was to find research conducted regarding tertiary evidence-based practice interventions nursing professionals can use to help children …
Adolescent Substance Abuse Patients Within The Therapeutic Alliance: An Integrative Literature Review, Emily Decker
Adolescent Substance Abuse Patients Within The Therapeutic Alliance: An Integrative Literature Review, Emily Decker
Grace Peterson Nursing Research Colloquium
Background: Adolescent patients with substance use disorders (SUD) struggle with seeking treatment, staying motivated during treatment, and are at a higher risk of relapse following treatment compared with other SUD patients. A positive therapeutic alliance between provider and patient has been shown to positively affect treatment outcomes. Therefore, describing interpersonal patient traits which influence this alliance is integral to keeping patients in treatment and preventing relapse post-treatment.
Objectives: The purpose of this integrative review was to identify interpersonal characteristics of adolescent patients with a substance use disorder which can significantly influence their therapeutic alliance with the provider, ultimately leading to …

Barriers To Quality Communication Between Interdepartmental Nurses During Patient Handoff And Their Elimination: Integrative Literature Review Proposal, James Fitzpatrick
Grace Peterson Nursing Research Colloquium
Abstract
Medication errors are an issue in all medical providers try to avoid at all cost. Nurses especially are at high risk for medication errors because they are responsible for patient hand-offs at the beginning and end of each shift. Online Versus Traditional End-Of-Life Care Education In Nursing: An Integrative Literature Review, Emily Wolff
Grace Peterson Nursing Research Colloquium
Abstract
Background: Professional nurses spend more time with patients who are dying than any other health care professional. However, studies show that nurses feel unprepared, or unequipped, to provide adequate end-of-life (EOL) care to these patients, which has directed many organizations to dedicate resources to the development of effective EOL care education programs. The most effective and efficient method for EOL care education delivery is yet to be determined.
Objectives: The purpose of this integrative literature review is to examine the existing research regarding the efficacies of online and traditional EOL care education methods for professional nurses because the reported …

Labor Dystocia: Review Of New Acog Cesarean Guidelines, Naviah Soo
Labor Dystocia: Review Of New Acog Cesarean Guidelines, Naviah Soo
Grace Peterson Nursing Research Colloquium
ABSTRACT
Background: The rate of cesarean has significantly increased over the last decade with labor dystocia being the most common indicator for primary cesarean deliveries. This diagnosis was of labor dystocia was first established in the 1950’s by Emmanual A. Friedman. Due to the stark rise in cesareans, a landmark paper by Zhang challenged his definition of labor dystocia and changed the cesarean guidelines by adjusting the parameters that defined labor dystocia. In 2014, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) introduced these new guidelines with the aim of reducing the rate of cesareans.
