Background: Frequent users of the emergency department (ED) can result in overcrowding, compromised quality of care, increased cost, and reduced efficiency. It is hypothesized that case management interventions can decrease the amount of ED visits, therefore improving quality of care, improving patient outcome, and lowering costs.

According to a report by The Institute of Medicine, medical errors were associated with up to 98,000 deaths and more than 1 million injuries each year in the United States. These errors can result in poor outcomes, which increase harm or death. According to the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Reporting System, up to 15% of errors reported cite automated dispensing cabinets as the source of the drug involved in the error.Nearly 58% to 70% of hospitals nationwide use automated dispensing cabinets. No-Nit policies have been used in schools since their introduction in the mid-1980s to combat the spread of head lice throughout a school community. The policies state that if a child is found to have live lice or lice eggs, termed ‘nits,’ they are not able to return to school until they can show a complete removal of all nits. Homicide is the second-leading cause of death for 15 to 24 year-old Americans, and the third-leading cause of death for 25 to 34 year-old Americans, and 80% of these homicides are committed via firearm. Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a chronic, progressive, degenerative disease of the nervous system that affects more than one million Americans. Individuals who have PD generally exhibit bradykinesia, postural instability, shuffling steps and freezing during gait. These impairments in motor function cannot be fully addressed with pharmacological treatment and can eventually become unresponsive to this form of treatment. Even with modern medical research and technology, pediatric cancer is still the leading cause of death for children and adolescents in the United States. Delirium commonly affects hospitalized elderly patients, and is associated with increased mortality and morbidity, among other detrimental outcomes. Delirium is increasing in prevalence, yet remains under detected. Many of the negative effects of hospitalization, such as immobility, dehydration, and polypharmacy, increase the risk for developing delirium. Background: Anesthesia practitioners are familiar with awareness with recall (AWR) as a phenomenon, however, research has shown it is inadequately assessed, evaluated, and treated in patients receiving general anesthesia leading to significant undesired sequela.

Objectives: The purpose of this quality improvement project (QIP) was to attempt to improve the perceived knowledge and comfort of anesthesia practitioners relative to the assessment, evaluation, and treatment of patients with AWR, thus, closing the gap between knowledge and practice.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the mean age of mothers at the delivery of their first child has increased from 24.9 years to 26.3 years between 2000 and 2014. Miscarriages, financial instability, lack of a partner and more effective contraception may also be associated with the increasing rate of delayed pregnancy. The increasing rate of delayed pregnancy could contribute to the higher rate of cesarean section deliveries in women over the age of 35 which could lead to an increased risk to mother and fetus. Background: Transgender encompasses anyone who does not identify with the gender they were assigned at birth. Due to the previous DSM-IV Gender Identity Disorder diagnosis, transgender was considered a pathology. The 2013 DSM-V switch to Gender Dysphoria depathologized the transgender identity.
