Exploring Reasons For Opting Out Of Hpv Vaccination Among Patients And Health Care Providers, Megan Masters Mar 2018

Exploring Reasons For Opting Out Of Hpv Vaccination Among Patients And Health Care Providers, Megan Masters

Grace Peterson Nursing Research Colloquium

Background: Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a virus that can infect both males and females, potentially causing genital warts, vaginal, cervical, anal, and vulvar cancers. According to CDC guidelines, the HPV vaccine can be given to boys and girls age 9 to 26 (CDC, 2017). Although cases of HPV have dropped as the number of HPV vaccinations rise, vaccine rates are still far below the Health People 2020 target of 80% coverage. With current rates of 49.5% coverage in females, and 37.5% in males through 2017, it is evident that current routes of vaccine education are not adequate (CDC, 2017).

Should Ferritin Tests Be Added To Routine Screening: An Integrative Literature Review, Adebowale Adesuyi Mar 2018

Should Ferritin Tests Be Added To Routine Screening: An Integrative Literature Review, Adebowale Adesuyi

Grace Peterson Nursing Research Colloquium

Abstract

The purpose of this analysis was to explore the possible benefits of a blood screening to be coupled with the annual routine check-up. Blood screenings are only administered upon reasonable suspicion of pathology. Upon the examination of current research concerning ferritin levels within the blood, one can speculate the existence of strong correlations between ferritin levels, inflammatory disease and early morality. Cause for concern stems from the fact that the ferritin levels of the vast majority of people in the US are completely unknown.

Ferritin levels are the most accurate marker for measuring the amount of iron being stored …

Neurologic Remediation Post Ischemic Stroke: An Integrated Literature Review, Erika Melman Mar 2018

Neurologic Remediation Post Ischemic Stroke: An Integrated Literature Review, Erika Melman

Grace Peterson Nursing Research Colloquium

To date, tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) is one of the only FDA approved treatments for patients presenting with symptomatic ischemic stroke. The narrow therapeutic window range of 3 – 4.5 hours poses a serious set-back in recovery and neurological remediation rates. This research will explore the following research questions: First, what current therapies are clinically proven most effective and used most commonly in increasing neurologic function post ischemic stroke? Second, what is the safest and most effective treatment to date for an ischemic stroke to reduce permanent neurological dysfunction? An integrative literature review was used to assess and report current …

Grace Peterson Nursing Research Colloquium

Abstract

Background: Previous studies have reported associations between prenatal maternal distress and negative health outcomes for the unborn. There are gaps within this body of knowledge and inconsistencies in the research which make the relevant relationships unclear. If changes in maternal cortisol cause alterations in fetal development, it is important to gain an adequate understanding of how, and if, maternal psychological distress predicts maternal cortisol levels. This study is an integrative literature review that looks at the research investigating a connection between maternal psychological distress and maternal cortisol levels during pregnancy. Lazarus and Folkman’s (1984) Transactional Model of Stress and …
