This doctoral project sought to close a critical knowledge gap in the implementation of early mobility (EM) practices among intensive care unit (ICU) nurses. Guided by the ADDIE instructional design model, the initiative centered on developing and delivering a six-week educational intervention aimed at enhancing nurses’ comprehension and application of EM strategies for critically ill patients. This is an evaluation of a quality initiative (QI) project to determine the effectiveness of the 2023 workplace violence prevention training program in reducing workplace violence-related injures increasing the staff’s self-reported confidence in managing violence-related injuries and increasing the staff’s self-reported confidence in managing violent incidents during the six-month evaluation period. Falls among older adults in long-term care facilities constitute a pressing concern, affecting 30% to 40% of residents each year due to physiological changes associated with aging. Such incidents precipitated injuries, extended hospitalizations, elevated healthcare costs, and increased the potential for legal liabilities. I conducted this quality improvement (QI) initiative with the aim of reducing inpatient falls within an adult medical-surgical unit through the implementation of a Fall Champions model supported by structured education and decentralized nursing leadership. Inpatient falls pose a persistent threat to patient safety, often leading to injury, prolonged hospitalization, and increased healthcare costs. The PHQ-9 and the GAD-7 are short screening instruments used for the detection of depression and anxiety symptoms in various settings, including general and mental health care settings (Pranckeviciene, et al., 2022). Correctional nurses deliver care in environments marked by violent incidents, chronic understaffing, and moral distress. These conditions heighten occupational stress, jeopardize patient safety, and accelerate staff turnover, yet few U.S. jails provide evidence-based training in rapid self-regulation strategies. The purpose of this staff education project was to evaluate whether a 2-week curriculum could increase correctional nurses’ knowledge, attitudes, and self-reported skills (KAS) for on-shift mindfulness use. I designed this Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project to develop an educational program that increases staff knowledge of hourly rounding using an evidence-based approach, specifically pain, position, potty, and possession (the 4Ps), to prevent falls among residents in a long-term care facility. According to facility leadership, the observed gap in practice was the nursing staff members’ lack of knowledge in performing hourly rounding. The emergency nursing profession faces a critical challenge with a declining workforce and a high prevalence of workplace violence (WPV), which negatively impacts nurse job satisfaction. This quantitative study examined the relationships among nursing resilience, time elapsed since WPV exposure, and job satisfaction among emergency nurses (ENs) in the United States. Grounded in resilience and Herzberg’s two-factor theories, this study used a cross-sectional, correlational design. The practice problem I identified was a rising number of resident falls throughout the past 6-12 months at a 29-bed assisted living facility (ALF). The organization requested an education program on evidence-based practices on fall prevention in older adults. Summary This project was an evidence-based staff education initiative to reduce alarm fatigue and enhance patient safety through telemetry optimization in an acute care setting. The core issue involved the overuse of continuous cardiac monitoring, which contributed to nonactionable alarms, alarm fatigue, workflow inefficiencies, delayed throughput, and increased costs. The project was a structured intervention delivered to 171 telemetry nurses across three inpatient units. Pretests and posttests measured changes in knowledge, intent, and practice. Results showed a 22.9% increase in knowledge, a 92% agreement regarding intention to follow discontinuation protocols, and a 10% overall reduction in practice of telemetry use …

This doctoral project is a staff education program to enhance the treatment and diagnosis of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) at a mental healthcare facility. The identified practice problem was the lack of knowledge about the Abbreviated Teacher Rating Scale (ATRS) used in ADHD testing, which may result in inaccuracies and underutilization of the tool. To bridge this gap is essential in nursing practice as clinicians should be competent in performing standard assessment, which is indispensable for patient with ADHD. The timely and accurate collection of blood culture specimens is essential for improving patient outcomes and minimizing complications. Contaminated specimens can lead to unnecessary antibiotic use, prolonged hospital stays, and delays in appropriate treatment. At one eastern healthcare facility, monthly blood culture contamination rates reached an average of 4.5%, prompting the need for a targeted intervention. The objective of this project was to determine whether a structured process and trained team could reduce contamination rates to below 1%. Perinatal Opioid Use Disorder (POUD) constitutes a significant public health issue with important ramifications for both mothers and their newborns. The gap in practice identified for this Doctor of Nursing Practice staff education project was the perinatal nurses’ lack of knowledge regarding POUD. The problem was the need for POUD education for the nurses.
