Infectious disease outbreaks, like COVID-19, often catch much of the world by surprise, including health care workers. Health care workers faced deficits in training, resources, and staffing when responding to the pandemic. Staff of assisted living facilities fared even worse, with limited infectious disease education, infection control policies, and access to and training on personal protective equipment. Assisted living staff must have a protocol in place and have sufficient education on infectious diseases so they are prepared to respond and provide quality care to residents, should an outbreak occur. Review of current research on cannabis use indicates a knowledge gap among caregivers and the need for a tool making it easier to share accurate information with patients. A single-page point-of-care handout, similar to that used to advise the public about cigarette smoking, can help fill that gap. Metadata review of 76 articles was used to build a survey completed by 18 emergency room personnel (physicians, nurses, techs, hands-on administrators) before and after a brief presentation of the handout. This study was an integrated review that comprehensively analyzed the efficacy of statin therapy in mitigating the risk of cardiovascular accidents (CVA) among individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). The research seeks to explore statin management in preventing CVAs, a significant concern for this patient population. The study conducts a thorough synthesis of twenty-one peer-reviewed articles, critically evaluating the efficacy, safety, adherence factors, and cost-effectiveness of statin therapy for diabetic patients. Gestational diabetes mellitus, among the most frequent complications occurring during pregnancy, affects approximately 8% 10% of pregnant women. These women are at a much higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus later in life. Concerningly, during the transition from obstetrical care to primary care, women with gestational diabetes often miss the required follow-up testing, preventive care, and education on lifestyle changes that could prevent or delay the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology have provided national guidelines to standardize the expectation of care for these patients. Racial discrimination in health care has been a heavy topic of discussion on social media. Discrimination against women of color such as those of African American and Hispanic descent has been found to have negative health effects. The aim of this project was to identify how racial discrimination influenced African-American and Hispanic women’s health and current interventions that have been implemented to help address these issues. Family presence during resuscitation (FPDR) is a controversial but evidence-based concept that helps relieve some of the fear and anxiety for the family. Falls and fall-related injuries impact patients' health outcomes and are the most commonly reported adverse event in hospitals for patients over 65 years of age. This scholarly project was conducted to evaluate the effect of evidence-based education to the Registered Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistance in the medical and surgical oncology inpatient on reducing the number of patients falling. Retrospective reviews of patient fall rates, were conducted two months before the fall educational sessions, and prospective reviews were conducted after implementing fall education. The purpose of this hermeneutic phenomenological study was to examine the concept of the spiritual well-being of senior-level nursing students during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research was reinforced by Parse's (1992) human becoming theory which contains the construct of spirituality. Student nurses are “knowing beings" with a sense of purpose, constantly propelling themselves toward possibilities and freely choosing personal meaning in situations in an intersubjective process of relating value priorities. Over a million high school students are estimated to sustain at least one sports-related concussion annually. Unfortunately, over a third of these student-athletes suffer from post-concussion syndrome, which leads to the question of whether student-athletes are allowed proper time to heal after a concussion or if more can be done to optimize concussion recovery. Diabetes mellitus type 2 (DMt2) is an increasing health concern of epidemic proportion in the United States. High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) and artificial sweeteners (AS) have been implicated as contributory factors to DMt2. This project seeks to demonstrate elimination of daily consumption of HFCS and AS in DMt2 patients can contribute to lower hemoglobin A1C (HgbA1C) levels by comparing two groups of patients receiving two differing diabetes education programs. The purpose of this explanatory sequential mixed methods study was to determine if and how the completion of a didactic geriatric course influenced nursing students’ attitudes toward older people, and nursing students’ intentions to work with older adults among bachelor’s degree nursing programs in the Midwest region of the United States of America. Inadequate recognition and treatment of extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS) pose as a major liability to providers, as EPS can be life-threatening to patients, as they develop into metabolic syndrome, tardive dyskinesia (TD), or even death. Thus, insufficient usage of AIMS testing can negatively impact providers’ ability to meet associated care practice standards, when treating psychotic patients with antipsychotic medications. Burnout is a widespread phenomenon characterized by a reduction in energy that manifests in exhaustion, lack of inspiration, and feelings of frustration which may lead to reduced work efficacy and multiple absences. In the nursing profession, long hours, the pressure of quick decision-making, and the stress of caring for patients who may have poor outcomes may contribute to burnout. This integrative review was conducted to identify variables that contribute to nurse burnout and discover strategies organizations can implement to reduce or prevent nurse burnout.
