Promoting The Adoption Of Double Gloving Among Nurse Anesthetists: An Educational Intervention Based On The Theory Of Planned Behavior, Nguyet Tran Nov 2023

Promoting The Adoption Of Double Gloving Among Nurse Anesthetists: An Educational Intervention Based On The Theory Of Planned Behavior, Nguyet Tran

Doctoral Projects

Abstract

Background: The role of anesthetists in the transmission of pathogenic and non-pathogenic organisms from their work station to the patient has been well established in research. The proposed study aims to test the efficacy of an educational intervention in promoting double gloving in an effort to minimize the risk of cross-contamination.

Methods: This pilot study explored if multi-component educational intervention facilitates the adoption of double gloving and the prevention of cross-contamination in the anesthesia workstation. Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists (SRNAs) and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) were followed in three evaluation phases; the first test was done before the …

An Evaluation Of Implementing Enhanced Recovery After Surgery Protocol Throughout The Perioperative Phase: A Quality Improvement Initiative To Enhance Patient Outcomes After Colorectal Surgery, Jerica Hill Dnp Nov 2018

An Evaluation Of Implementing Enhanced Recovery After Surgery Protocol Throughout The Perioperative Phase: A Quality Improvement Initiative To Enhance Patient Outcomes After Colorectal Surgery, Jerica Hill Dnp

Doctoral Projects

Abstract: The Enhanced Recovery After Surgery protocol (ERAS) is a multimodal collaborative approach implemented throughout the perioperative phase to enhance patient outcomes. The key mechanism for effectiveness in the ERAS protocol is the attenuation of the surgical stress response combined with treatments that support the return of functions that delay recovery in traditional methods. The purpose of this scholarly project was to evaluate the results of the ERAS Pilot program currently initiated at Baptist Memorial Hospital to improve patient outcomes undergoing major abdominal surgery. Prior to the implementation of the ERAS protocol there was no standardized method in place at …

Knowledge, Perceptions, And Attitudes Of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists Regarding The Use Of Desflurane With A Laryngeal Mask Airway, Rachel Davidson Jul 2016

Knowledge, Perceptions, And Attitudes Of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists Regarding The Use Of Desflurane With A Laryngeal Mask Airway, Rachel Davidson

Doctoral Projects

Abstract

The purpose of this capstone project is to evaluate the knowledge, perceptions, and attitudes of currently practicing, nationally board certified, registered nurse anesthetists regarding the use of desflurane with laryngeal mask airways. This research was conducted by developing a questionnaire and administering it to current nurse anesthetists. A literature review was completed to establish a theoretical framework, summarize and describe the current state of science, and determine the nature and design of this study. Although there are studies regarding desflurane use during the maintenance of general anesthesia using a laryngeal mask airway, there is no current perception-based research regarding …
