The present study theoretically investigated the effects of long-term use of hormonal birth control on the female cardiovascular and neurologic systems. The setting will take place at Fort Hays State University campus. Our participants of the survey will include 200 random females ages 16 to 25. This data will be taken from those women who take hormonal birth control versus those females who do not take it on a daily basis. This project explores the implementation of Student Success Coaches at Augusta Technical College (Augusta Tech) and their potential impact on the rates of overall program completion and the rate of diverse student program completion. Framed within the GROW model and Sociocultural Learning Theory, the project aims to determine if coaching interventions address barriers to completion and foster a supportive learning environment. A mixed-methods exploratory approach was employed, combining empirical data such as retention rates and demographics with qualitative information from surveys. Nursing shortages nationwide have been exemplified since the global pandemic demanding an examination of contributing factors crippling the profession. The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that 200,000 annual vacant registered nurse positions for the next decade, are problematic due to the mass exodus of individuals serving in the occupation (Gaines, 2022). Falls in hospital settings pose significant safety and financial risks, particularly in Behavioral Health Units (BHU), where fall rates often exceed national averages. Despite traditional fall prevention practices, such as risk assessments and post-fall huddles, the target BH unit continued to experience high fall rates, failing to meet the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) standards. Patients who experience a stroke while hospitalized have a higher mortality rate than those who present to the emergency department. Our plan is to utilize technology to allow the stroke provider to evaluate the patient while in their hospital room, instead of waiting until the patient is in the CT scanner. Utilizing technology of an iPad for inpatient code strokes will allow for quicker assessment of the patient, resulting in faster treatment decision for this population.

Abstracts

Blood cultures are a diagnostic tool used to determine the presence of bacteremia. Blood culture contamination (BCC) can lead to inappropriate use of antibiotics, increased length of stay, and increased healthcare costs. Many hospitals should have benchmarked BCC rates of <3%. However, BCC rates or false positives are known to be highest in emergency departments and there has been limited research on integrating multi-method approaches to reduce BCC rates. Purpose: The aim of this quality improvement project was to reduce the monthly percentage of BCC in an academic emergency department through implementation of a robust multi-method intervention targeting nurses and patient care technicians who perform phlebotomy for blood cultures.

The intervention was implemented in four approaches beginning in June 2022: Focused Education, Dashboard Utilization, Campaign Initiatives, and Improvement to RN Workflow. Focused education consisted of numerous electronic and in-person trainings. Dashboard utilization involved consistently updating staff of real time metrics of BCC. Campaign Initiatives involved increased hand hygiene prior to BCC draws. Finally, workflow for RNs were improved by …

Are reduced frequency of vital signs as effective in identifying patient deterioration in postoperative adult orthopedic and spine patients after a post anesthesia care unit stay with transfer to orthopedic and neuroscience spine units when compared to current practice?

Conclusions/Implications:

• Changing the frequency of post operative vital signs provides the same quality, not directly affecting an increased risk of death.

Inadequate patient support during discharge and an inconsistent discharge process are factors contributing to high readmissions in this population.

Purpose: This quality improvement project aimed to reduce COPD-related hospital readmissions by standardizing the discharge process for patients admitted with AECOPD and identify patient risk factors for readmission.
