In speaking to those assembled for Legislative Day, Tim Oksman, lobbyist for HB1024 stated that the bill's passage against all odds was a tribute to the respect that the legislators have for the Nursing Profession. For persons interested in the political process surrounding HB1024 this chronology is written. If at times it seems repetitive, it's because the process was. The same core group of people, give or take a couple, said the same things to different people over and over again. Patient education has been shown to be a major factor in improving the compliance and self-care skills of diabetic patients, thereby improving the quality of life for the patient. Nurses have an important role in diabetes patient education. Research has indicated, however, that barriers such as lack of knowledge and negative attitudes may prevent nurses from effectively delivering this care to their patients. This study measured the cognitive learning outcomes of registered nurses who completed a short cardiac nursing course. This course was held in a metropolitan teaching hospital during four weeks in September, 1989. The author grouped the twenty participants into one of two groups according to prior acute cardiac nursing experience; (1) those who had less than six months post-basic cardiac nursing experience; and (2) those who had six months or more post-basic cardiac nursing experience. Home care can be described as the provision of health and related social support services to physically and mentally impaired persons in the places of residence considered to be their homes. The purpose of the study was to examine the patients' self perceived benefits of home health care services delivered in Chesapeake, Virginia. This investigation sought to study client satisfaction as it applies to area specific delivery of services, professional competence, and personal qualities. The target population were residents of Chesapeake, Virginia, who were currently or had recently received home care services from ComfortCare Home Health Services.

A Comparative Analysis Of Head Nurse Role Perceptions In Acute Care Hospitals, Margaret A. Miller

This study examined the perceptions of 43 head nurse participants from private, voluntary and government hospital settings. Utilizing a tool adapted by the researcher, the Head Nurse Role Questionnaire (HNRQ), the study sought to explore five areas of job context: Job Variability, Job Expertise, Job Definition, Job Capacity and Job Incentives. Differences in perceptions were analyzed utilizing descriptive statistics and Analyses of Variance. The three organizational dimensions of this study included: standardization, formalization and organizational culture. Findings revealed significant differences in Job Definition. The Role Of The Nurse Middle Manager In A Military Health Care Setting, Terry Brown

This study examined the expectations and perceptions of 63 military nurse participants from all levels of the nurse hierarchy for the role of the military nurse middle manager. Utilizing a tool developed by the researcher, the MMRQ, the study sought to explore role clarity and the importance of the management principles: planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling. Relationships and differences in nursing perceptions were analyzed using Pearson Correlation and Discriminant Analysis. Although the hypothesis of no relationship between expectations and perceptions could not be supported, findings revealed role confusion for two nurse hierarchical levels. In assessing professional caregivers of Alzheimer's Disease victims, this study tested whether, 1) knowledge would influence perceptions of burden in providing care to such patients, and if 2) individual locus of control would influence perceptions of burden in caring for; Alzheimer's I patients. Professional nurses (BSN's, RN's, and LPN's) from nursing banes, hospitals and psychiatric facilities were asked to complete a three part survey. Leadership Potentials And Personality Traits Of Associate Degree And Baccalaureate Degree Students In Selected Associate And Baccalaureate Nursing Programs, Beverely J. Cobb

Leadership potentials and personality profiles of 27 associate degree and 20 baccalaureate degree nursing students were compared, using the California Psychological Inventory (CPI) and the Managerial Key for the CPI. The mean values on each of the 18 scales of the CPI and the mean values of the Managerial Score were compared and revealed no significant difference (p=.05) between the two groups of nursing students, and were within normal range, indicating average social and intellectual adjustment. Though the associate degree students had a higher mean value on the Managerial Score than the baccalaureate students the difference was not significant (p=.05). …

The study was concerned with patients' perception of nursing care through labor and delivery. The purpose of this study was to: (1) determine specific factors that contributed to medication errors during the identification process of medication preparation and administration, and (2) present these findings as an aid to minimize or eliminate factors which contribute to medication errors.

To conduct this study the descriptive survey was used. Seventeen medication nurses were observed on three medication rounds. A total of 688 patient contacts and 933 prepared medications were observed and tabulated. The tool of research used to collect data was an observation check sheet developed for this study.
