Homelessness as a public health phenomenon is a humanitarian crisis present across nations around the world. Instances of homelessness are rooted in public social and economic failures. Complex challenges like this require multifaceted and holistic initiatives such as those proposed by the Integrative Family Health Model in Chile. This project describes current interdisciplinary programs (social services) and how they collaborate to provide integrated services to people experiencing homelessness. We also consider the patient perspective on how these interventions affect their well-being. Chronic illnesses like cancer, HIV, and other non-communicable disease are increasing globally, especially in developing countries, necessitating development of palliative care and symptom management systems. In Kenya, the burden of care for chronically ill patients often falls to unpaid, informal caregivers like family members or friends. Thirty-five current or past informal caregivers from Kisumu, Kenya were interviewed about their experience, challenges they faced, and interventions they felt would be helpful. This investigation focuses on the effects of Alzheimer‟s disease beyond the consequences it implicates for the patient. It must be recognized that this is a disease whose repercussions affect the family caregiver of the diseased with the same strength that it disturbs the principal carrier. The sporadic characteristics of Alzheimer‟s disease, externalized through mood swings, memory loss, the eventual loss of bodily functions, and, among other symptoms, the inability to communicate, create a category of instability and volatility experienced solely by the primary caregiver.
