Background: The non-medical use of opioids has reached epidemic levels nationwide, and rural areas have been particularly affected by increasing rates of overdose mortality as well as increases in the prison population. Individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD) are at increased risk for relapse and overdose upon reentry to the community due to decreased tolerance during incarceration. It is crucial to identify barriers to substance use disorder treatment post-release from prison because treatment can be particularly difficult to access in resource-limited rural Appalachia.

There are significant benefits that manifest when an individual chooses to ride a bicycle as their primary mode of transportation. To investigate these benefits, the environmental, health, economic, and social impacts of biking were evaluated through research and data analyses. This revealed that numerous advantages can be obtained at an individual and local scale through citizens choosing to adopt a biking lifestyle. However, it was found that many Londoners are deterred from biking due to poor biking infrastructure. This paper calls into question the current cycling framework in London and it’s limitations on achieving the numerous benefits that biking offers. …

自2012年開始，作者專注研究藝術作為圖像語言的本質，以及如何利用藝術創作介入保護家庭及兒童服務，促進家暴兒童受害者的自我表達，為他們在不利的成長環境之中，提供一處或是僅有的安全空間和渠道，讓他們長期被抑壓的情緒得以適當的宣洩，作為導向他們健康成長的開步。

多年來，作者與相關服務單位的社工和專業的藝術治療師，為家暴兒童受害者特別設計連串的藝術創作計劃，所有完成的計劃都是各方專業共同積極參與的成果。最短的計劃為時半年，大多數是一年的計劃，嚴重的個案會個別跟進至年半或更長。

由2012至今，多項完成的計劃已服務超過六十位受家暴創傷的兒童，當中不少的創傷是經年累月的。本書摘錄了這些孩子的作品，當中展現了驚恐、悲傷、憤怒、迷惘和歉疚等，反映的是他們內心那紛亂不安的世界。他們當中承受的創傷或有相同，但每幅圖像都有其獨特的複雜性，非一個孩子能夠用說話和文字說得清楚的。

本書收錄的每一幅圖畫都是一種圖像書寫（image writing）。圖像書寫不需依賴兒童那尚待開發和學習的語言能力。正因如此，這些作品讓我們看見家暴兒童受害者內心那說不出的痛。

Some studies have found acculturation to be a positive predictor of internalizing problems (i.e., anxiety and depression) in Latino youth (Gonzales et al., 2002), whereas other studies have revealed no relation or a negative relation between acculturation and internalizing problems (Smokowski, Buchanan, & Bacallao, 2009). Narrative reviews of this literature exist (Gonzales et al., 2002; Gonzales et al., 2009) but a quantitative synthesis of the literature has not been conducted. After a systematic literature search that identified 38 studies meeting inclusionary criteria, a meta-analysis was performed to estimate the size and direction of the relation between acculturation and internalizing problems. …

In response, many colleges are now offering these students the extra support of an Autism Support Program (ASP), many of which include a mentoring component. Using a small sample of college students who identified as having ASD, I compared participants and non-participants of a university ASP. Purpose: The number of Filipino Americans in Las Vegas, Nevada, is growing considerably, but no research to date has assessed the specific health needs of this burgeoning population. Thus, this study aims to assess health behaviors, perceived community health problems, and self-reported diseases/conditions among Filipino Americans in the Greater Las Vegas area and evaluate any difference by gender. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 200 Filipino American adults residing in the Greater Las Vegas area using a prevalidated instrument. Increasing evidence indicates that, in addition to poverty, maternal depression, and other well-established factors, unpredictability of maternal and environmental signals early in life influences trajectories of brain development, determining risk for subsequent mental illness. However, whereas most risk factors for later vulnerability to mental illness are readily measured using existing, clinically available tools, there are no similar measures for assessing early-life unpredictability. Here we validate the Questionnaire of Unpredictability in Childhood (QUIC) and examine its associations with mental health in the context of other indicators of childhood adversity (e.g., traumatic life events, socioeconomic status, and parenting quality). Our survey of animal-assisted interventions (AAI) offered by French intervention facilities aimed to examine and describe the range of AAI for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) children. We invited 2,302 facilities to reply to an online questionnaire. The responses to our survey (n = 386) revealed that animals were used extensively as a complementary intervention. Most AAI sessions were in groups. Various animal species (especially horses and dogs) and facility staff members as well as external collaborators were involved. Numerous benefits (e.g., enhanced well-being, self-esteem, and socialization) were reported. Facilities face difficulties in connection with AAI including finances, staffing, and …

All of the currently used therapeutic approaches to treatment of heroin abuse and other opioid drugs of abuse focus on antagonizing a brain receptor (particularly µ-opiate receptors). BACKGROUND: Most smokers struggle to overcome tobacco addiction. Neuroscientific models of addiction emphasize the importance of brain regions associated with cognitive control and reward to understand the cycle of addiction and relapse. During an attempt at abstinence, the cognitive control system appears to be underpowered to override the heightened reward system of the addicted brain. Thus, one neural target for treatment is to strengthen the cognitive control system. It may be possible to improve the functioning of the cognitive control system via deliberate practice.

Typically, clients attend therapy with the intention of making positive changes.
