The Implementation Of Nurse Practitioner Residency Programs To Increase The Employment Retention Of New Graduates, Roni-Jo Panganiban
The Implementation Of Nurse Practitioner Residency Programs To Increase The Employment Retention Of New Graduates, Roni-Jo Panganiban
Master of Science in Nursing Family Nurse Practitioner
This review explores the effectiveness of Nurse Practitioner (NP) residency programs in addressing role strain, burnout, and retaining new graduates. It emphasizes the factors contributing to NP resignations and proposes formal residency programs to improve job satisfaction and retention rates. Research highlights benefits such as enhanced preparedness, credibility, and better patient care, advocating for increased program accessibility and funding. Additionally, the application of the theory of planned behavior underscores compliance with regulations, evidence-based practice, and environmental influences for patient safety in advanced practice registered nursing. The literature review on NP residency programs draws from six empirical articles, focusing on job …

About Dying And Death: Thanatology's Place In Medical Curriculum, Jill Dombroski
About Dying And Death: Thanatology's Place In Medical Curriculum, Jill Dombroski
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
This study explored how healthcare providers engage in advance care planning and end-of-life care conversations. The research explored what shapes their understanding and the extent to which concepts from thanatology they intuitively bring in, explicitly bring in, and maybe fail to recognize. To achieve this, constructivist grounded theory (CGT) methodology guided the design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation of the findings, which allowed for iteration across interviews and analysis with existing theories and data in the literature. The CGT design encouraged further engagement with the literature in an ongoing iterative fashion as well as with the analysis of the data. …
Advanced Care Planning In Primary Care, Kaylee Beals, Amanda Merriman
Advanced Care Planning In Primary Care, Kaylee Beals, Amanda Merriman
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
In Illinois, the do-not-resuscitate (DNR) form that is legally binding in all healthcare facilities is known as the Practitioner Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST) form. The Patient Self-Determination Act (PSDA) of 1991 mandates only certain facilities to discuss advanced care planning (ACP). Primary care offices are not included in this mandate. Therefore, no structured process exists for primary care providers to identify patients who may benefit from ACP discussions. The purpose of this Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project was to initiate conversations about ACP with patients 55 years and older in a primary care office and complete POLST forms …
Identifying Predictors Of Eventual Rural Practice Among Female Osteopathic Medical Students, Dana Kahl
Identifying Predictors Of Eventual Rural Practice Among Female Osteopathic Medical Students, Dana Kahl
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The United States is facing a growing physician shortage that threatens the ability of our healthcare system to provide needed services. This shortage will be more acutely felt in rural and underserved areas. Osteopathic medical education, with its priority of primary care specialties, plays a significant role in meeting the healthcare needs of rural communities in America. The fastest-growing demographic of osteopathic physicians is women under the age of 45 (American Osteopathic Association, 2021). Additionally, for the first time in history, women outnumber men in medical schools, accounting for 51% of current medical students (Boyle, 2019). Who is admitted to …

Increasing Colorectal Cancer Screening Uptake Among Hispanic/Latino Patients: A Quality Improvement Initiative, Erick Hernandez Campos, Elizabeth Morse, David Phillippi
Increasing Colorectal Cancer Screening Uptake Among Hispanic/Latino Patients: A Quality Improvement Initiative, Erick Hernandez Campos, Elizabeth Morse, David Phillippi
DNP Scholarly Projects
Background: In 2021, cancer (CRC) screening rates for Latino men (42%) and women (47.5%) remain well below the Health People 2020 target (70.5%). Extensive documentation of barriers for screening include language, insurance status, and other sociocultural barriers which contribute to delays in diagnosis and/or diagnosis at advanced stages of the disease, and worse health outcomes. Latinos need culturally and linguistically appropriate health promotion interventions aimed to increase CRC screening rates with any modality (FIT, Cologuard, or Colonoscopy).
Methods: The Donabedian Structure-Process-Outcome (S-P-O) Model for quality improvement was used to develop and target a provider-driven, language-concordant communication interventions for …

Findings: There was a disconnect between the intent of the College of Family Physicians of Canada Key Features document, and how it is applied at …
Management Of Opioid Use Disorder In Primary Care, Carolyn Jeffries
Management Of Opioid Use Disorder In Primary Care, Carolyn Jeffries
Capstone Showcase
The prevalence of opioid use disorder (OUD) in the United States, and worldwide, has drastically increased in the span of 2-3 years. OUD is considered chronic condition and as such requires routine care over a lifetime. This makes OUD patients excellent candidates to be managed by primary care providers (PCPs). This article discusses the various barriers to treatment of OUD in a primary care setting as well methods and models that aim to mitigate these barriers. We will also review how to take a detailed assessment of an OUD patient, mainstays of medication assisted treatment (MAT), and management of side …
Continuity Of Care In Rural Surgical Patients, Sydney M. Cardozo
Continuity Of Care In Rural Surgical Patients, Sydney M. Cardozo
Family Medicine Clerkship Student Projects
Continuity of care is an integral part of patient care and is important for reducing morbidity and mortality following hospitalizations. Medical errors are common during transitions of care, and are most frequently caused by lack of suitable discharge planning and poor communication between surgical teams, patients, and primary care physicians. This project aims to create a new standardized note template for surgery teams to use when discharging patients, with the goal of augmenting communication and efficiency during transitions of care within and outside the UVM Health Network.

Education of primary care providers about the current recommendations, guidelines, and caveats surrounding obtaining annual B12 levels in patients on metformin to screen for deficiency. Education was based off of informal survey results assessing providers' current practices and the preferred medium through which they wanted to recieve educational content. Educational content was presented in a flowchart format for ease of use and distributed at both practice sites for providers to hang at their workstations.
