Concordance Between Clinical And Pathological Response Assessment After Neo-Adjuvant Chemotherapy In Patients With Invasive Lobular Carcinoma, Aisha Shaikh, Muhammad Usman Tariq, Shaista Khan, Romana Idress, Lubna Mushtaque Vohra, Saira Fatima Shaikh, Hira Waheed

Department of Surgery

Background: Neo-adjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) is frequently administered in breast carcinoma patients. The clinical response to NAC guides further treatment. The pathological response is not only an independent prognostic factor, but it also guides further treatment and prognosis.
Objectives: The aim of our study was to find the degree of concordance between clinical and pathological response assessments after NAC in Invasive lobular Carcinoma (ILC) cases by using World Health Organization (WHO) criteria and different pathological systems, respectively. We also tried to identify any useful parameter of clinical assessment that could better correlate with pathologic assessment and provide a better estimation of …

Department of Radiology

We present a case of a 14-year-old girl who was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma in 2014. She was managed with chemotherapy and remained in remission for 3 years. On her surveillance imaging in 2017, a left-sided renal neoplastic mass was incidentally discovered. She underwent nephrectomy and pathology of the resected specimen revealed small cell tumour of the kidney with features favouring renal Ewing sarcoma/primitive neuroectodermal tumour. Molecular genetic analysis by fluorescence in situ hybridisation was performed which showed translocation of 22q12, thereby confirming the diagnosis. This is a rare secondary malignancy and an unusual association. This case highlights the importance …

Incidence Of Venous Thromboembolism In Cancer Patients Treated With Cisplatin Based Chemotherapy - A Cohort Study, Muhammad Nauman Zahir, Quratulain Shaikh, Munira Shabbir-Moosajee, Adnan Abdul Jabbar

Department of Radiation Oncology

Background: Cancer related thrombosis not only increases morbidity and mortality but also poses a significant financial burden on health care system. Risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in these patients substantially increases with the addition of chemotherapy. Lately, cisplatin has been implicated as an independent factor. There is little data estimating the risk of venous thromboembolism in patients receiving cisplatin based chemotherapy when compared to other chemotherapeutic agents. Methods: Patients who had received chemotherapy between November 2010 and October 2012 were retrospectively identified from a single institute cancer registry. 200 patients who had received cisplatin based chemotherapy were identified as the exposed …
