Heart failure is a possible complication following ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) even after revascularization. Neuroendocrine activation in the process of ventricular remodeling can be regulated by angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitor (ARNI) as well as angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. The use of ARNI in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction has been found to be superior to ACE inhibitor. The role of ARNI on cardiac function in STEMI has not been established. A clinician treating a patient with STEMI considered giving sacubitril/valsartan to reduce the risk of developing heart failure. The purpose of this study was to examine patient experience among the underserved in a specialized interprofessional collaborative practice heart failure clinic. This prospective study utilized both qualitative and quantitative data to describe the patient experience within an interprofessional collaborative practice. Background: Limited data exist on the role of chronic hyperglycemia-related cardiac autonomic dysfunction in incident heart failure (HF). We investigated the relations of resting heart rate (HR) and PR interval with chronic hyperglycemia, and effects on new-onset HF.

Methods: We prospectively studied 550 patients with prior coronary disease, ischemic stroke and/ or type 2 diabetes. Incident HF was ascertained. Heart rate-PR interval dissociation was defined as counter-physiological co-occurrence of increased PR interval (>mean; 173.3ms) and increased resting HR (>mean; 64.4 beats/min).

Purpose: Detrimental effects of using non–patient-centered language (nPCL) have been reported for diabetes, mental illness, and obesity, and both the American Medical Association (AMA) and International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) recommend using patient-centered language in medical literature. Heart failure is a common yet stigmatized disease, and nPCL may further propagate stigma. This study analyzed current use of nPCL in journals focused on heart failure research and also examined whether the journals steer authors to adhere to AMA or ICMJE guidelines regarding nPCL.

The purpose of this study was to identify high-priority problems experienced by individuals during the second and third month after discharge from an acute care facility for heart failure. This descriptive, exploratory study, an extension of a previous analysis that examined high-priority problems in the first month, comprised 19 participants who were assigned to an intervention group that received a randomized, 12-week-pilot coping partnership (COPE-HF) intervention. Background: We performed a retrospective analysis to evaluate the efficacy of VA-ECMO support in cardiogenic shock based on various etiologies.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 99 patients supported with VA-ECMO from January 1, 2012 to January 1, 2015. Outcomes included survival to discontinuation of VA-ECMO support and survival to hospital discharge. Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality. Early diagnosis of CHF in patients presenting to the emergency department with undifferentiated dyspnea would allow clinicians to begin appropriate treatment more promptly. Current guidelines recommend B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) levels for more accurate diagnosis of CHF in dyspneic patients. Although BNP levels are relatively inexpensive, the test is not usually performed at bedside and results may take up to an hour or more. Remote intracardiac hemodynamic monitoring is a growing area of interest to help aid in the management of patients with chronic congestive heart failure. The utility of remote hemodynamic monitoring has not previously been investigated with a ventricular assist device population. We present two cases of patients with ventricular assist devices in which we employed remote hemodynamic monitoring data to aid in patient management.
