Role Of Decorin At The Fetal-Maternal Interface, Chidambra D. Halari Aug 2022

Role Of Decorin At The Fetal-Maternal Interface, Chidambra D. Halari

The human placenta is an invasive tumor-like structure, this invasion being physiological. A subset of placental trophoblast called extra-villous trophoblast invades the uterine decidua and remodels uterine arteries into low-resistance, high-flow tubes to permit adequate flow of maternal blood to nourish the fetus. A poor extra-villous trophoblast invasion and uterine arterial remodeling can lead to fetal growth restriction and a serious pregnancy-associated maternal disease preeclampsia. Decorin, a leucine-rich proteoglycan produced by uterine decidual cells restrains multiple trophoblast functions: self-renewal and differentiation of trophoblast stem cells, migration, invasion, proliferation and endovascular differentiation. Additionally, decidual overproduction of decorin was associated with preeclampsia, …

Acute Kidney Injury Biomarkers: A Prospective Cohort Study In Urological Patients, Daniel Olvera-Posada May 2016

Acute Kidney Injury Biomarkers: A Prospective Cohort Study In Urological Patients, Daniel Olvera-Posada

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Several recent studies have assessed the use of biomarkers of Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), but the information among patients with stone disease and those with obstructive uropathy is limited. For this reason, we conducted a prospective cohort study to determine the urinary levels of KIM-1, Total and Monomeric NGAL in patients with hydronephrosis secondary to renal stone disease, congenital ureteropelvic junction obstruction or ureteral stricture, and in a group of healthy controls in our health care center. Urinary biomarker concentrations were evaluated before and after surgical treatment. Patients with hydronephrosis showed significantly higher baseline levels of KIM-1 compared to those …

A Pilot Trial Comparing The Effects Of Onabotulinumtoxina And Standard Oxybutynin Therapy As First Line Treatment For The Poorly Compliant Pediatric Neurogenic Bladder, Sumit Dave Aug 2012

A Pilot Trial Comparing The Effects Of Onabotulinumtoxina And Standard Oxybutynin Therapy As First Line Treatment For The Poorly Compliant Pediatric Neurogenic Bladder, Sumit Dave

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Research question

Is it feasible to conduct a phase III RCT to compare OnabotulinumtoxinA injections to oxybutynin as primary therapy in pediatric neurogenic bladder?

Methods

Patients on a stable oxybutynin regimen were recruited for a pilot RCT and underwent randomization to either OnabotulinumtoxinA or continuation of oxybutynin. Primary outcomes included an a priori defined feasibility and acceptability assessment. Secondary outcomes included continence, urodynamic parameters, side effects and QOL.

Results

The study enrolled 8 subjects in the OnabotulinumtoxinA group and 6 in the oxybutynin group. The recruitment rate was 75 % and the dropout rate was 6.6 %. There were 2 …
