Background Global health (GH) interest is rising among graduate medical education (GME) trainees, yet GH engagement is marred by the impact of colonization or racism, and there remains a lack of training to confront these challenges.

Objective To develop a modular, open-access curriculum that provides training in decolonization for GH GME and evaluate its feasibility and impact on learners’ critical reflection on decolonization.

INTRODUCTION: Burnout is an increasingly prevalent problem among resident physicians. To address this problem, the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) created the Back to Bedside initiative, supporting resident-driven projects focused on increasing direct interactions with patients. In 2017, Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) Internal Medicine Residency received a Back to Bedside grant to develop and implement “Humanism Rounds,” a multifaceted program which sought to promote personal connections between residents and patients and foster reflection about patients’ non-clinical stories, with the hopes of reducing burnout and increasing residents’ sense of meaning at work.

Effective conflict management can optimize patient care and enhance professional satisfaction. To communicate effectively in high-stress, high-impact situations, sex- and gender-based differences need to be considered.

The COVID-19 pandemic required modifications to undergraduate medical education that likely affected medical students' social identity formation (SIF). SIF is shaped by experiences throughout the medical education continuum. This commentary explores factors potentially affecting medical student SIF during the COVID-19 pandemic focusing on students' perceptions of being part of the healthcare team, their role in medicine, and their engagement during the pandemic. Based on such considerations, we propose that educators should aim to design effective learning environments to support a full educational experience that encompasses acquiring medical knowledge and building strong social identities even during a pandemic.

BACKGROUND: The pandemic poses challenges for in-person procedural skills training. We developed a virtual module for teaching hands-on tracheostomy skills.

OBJECTIVE: To develop and evaluate a virtual module prototype grounded in deliberate practice using tracheostomy change as an example.

METHODS: After identifying desirable features of a virtual module by surveying stakeholders, we designed a prototype using VoiceThread, a multimedia-based collaborative learning platform. We created an asynchronous module accessible to learners for repeated skill practice and for video upload of individual performance on a tracheostomy task trainer using personal devices. INTRODUCTION: The Inpatient Prospective Payment System, the framework for categorization of admissions, is based upon physician documentation leading to International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision code generation and Medical Severity Diagnosis-Related Group (MS-DRG) assignment. In this curriculum, we introduced internal medicine residents to this inpatient coding framework and its effects on hospital quality metrics and reimbursement. We focused on educating learners about the importance of physicians being proficient in providing thorough and specific clinical documentation to produce appropriate DRG assignment.
