Low Use Of Vacuum Extraction: Health Care Professionals’ Perspective In A University Hospital, Dar Es Salaam, Henrik Makokha-Sandell, Andrew Mgaya, Johanna Belachew, Helena Litorp, Hussein Kidanto, Birgitta Essén

Background Use of vacuum extraction (VE) has been declining in low and middle income countries. At the highest referral hospital Tanzania, 54% of deliveries are performed by caesarean section (CS) and only 0.8% by VE. Use of VE has the potential to reduce CS rates and improve maternal and neonatal outcomes but causes for its low use is not fully explored.

A research study completed by Kritikos et al. investigated student pharmacists and their characteristics in order to find a relationship with their views of research and attitudes towards pharmacy practice research. The study also recognized perceived barriers to pursuing or completing pharmacy practice research and identified ways that pharmacy educators could promote research interest in pharmacy practice. The research study concluded that student pharmacists perceive a lack of awareness of the needs, benefits, and career opportunities associated with pharmacy practice research. In 2018, medical students at Wayne State University School of Medicine (WSUSOM) created a first aid training initiative called First Aid First (FAF). FAF is a comprehensive community-based training program that teaches lifesaving skills tailored for Detroit. The objective of this initiative was to improve the confidence and basic first aid skills of those who attend trainings.

Pre- and post-test surveys were used to measure knowledge, confidence and skill level. The survey data gathered from March 2018-October 2019 consisted of 5 Likert scale questions for self-evaluation component and 23-25 multiple choice questions, number depending on time of administration due to …
