Prescribing Flavor: Proposal For A Longitudinal Culinary Medicine Curriculum In A Family Medicine Residency Program, Mario F. Jacome Jr
Department of Nutrition Student Projects
Culinary medicine is gaining recognition as an essential component of healthcare, aiming to integrate food and nutrition into medical practice for managing chronic diseases. However, there is a significant gap in nutrition education within medical schools and residency programs, leaving healthcare professionals ill-equipped to address patients' dietary concerns. This proposal presents a comprehensive longitudinal curriculum blueprint for culinary medicine tailored to family medicine residents. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning, collaborative cooking opportunities, and practical counseling techniques to empower residents in addressing nutrition-related diseases effectively. Through a structured approach and innovative educational strategies, this initiative aims to enhance resident proficiency and …
Assessment Of Condylar Morphology In Various Facial Types-Cbct Study, Dr.Shruti Patil
Assessment Of Condylar Morphology In Various Facial Types-Cbct Study, Dr.Shruti Patil
Annual Research Symposium
Mandibular condyle being part of the TMJ complex, its volume and shape play a pivotal role in treatment stability and outcomes in orthodontic and orthognathic patients over long term periods. Different loading patterns would result in different morphology of the TMJ. The association with different facial types and understanding the relationship between condylar position, morphology and jaw base divergence is limited. This study’s objective is to assess the condylar structure which includes condylar height, width and height of the fossa in different jaw base divergences.
A cross-sectional study was conducted in which 90 patients undergoing Orthodontic treatment were selected and …

Digital Journal of Clinical Medicine
Prioritizing patient safety is imperative for enhancing quality healthcare, especially in lower- and middle-income countries. Recognizing this urgency, India's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare introduced the 'SaQushal' toolkit, empowering health facilities to self-assess and improve their safety practices. This study presents an internal audit at a Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC) in Coimbatore, India, utilizing the 'SaQushal' framework. The facility achieved an overall score of 63%, exceeding the 50% minimum threshold for each domain, indicating commendable efforts towards establishing good quality standards. Notably, all domains scored above 50%, highlighting strengths across various safety dimensions. While acknowledging this progress, the …

Primary Hypertrophic Osteoarthropathy: A Case Series, Varuni Pragya, Mahabaleshwar Mamadapur Dr, Rahul Bisaralli Dr, Deepak Benny Dr, Purna Bansal
Digital Journal of Clinical Medicine
Skeletal dysplasia encompasses a spectrum of over 400 rare inheritable skeletal abnormalities typically manifested early in childhood. Hypertrophic Osteoarthropathy is a clinical syndrome marked by abnormal skin and osseous tissue proliferation at the distal extremities. It is characterized by unique clinical features such as digital clubbing, periostosis of tubular bones, and synovial effusions.
We report three cases of HPOA for further understanding and insight into this infrequent cause of clubbing. Case 1 involved a 25-year-old male presenting with joint pain, primarily in wrists and knees, accompanied by progressive swelling in both lower limbs for the past 3 years. Case 2 …

Spontaneous Tumor Lysis Syndrome In A Patient With Recent Diagnosis Of Multiple Myeloma — An Unusual Presentation, Taha Al Hassan, Olga G. Cantu-Rodriguez, Eunbee Cho, Edgar G. Dorsey Trevino
Research Symposium
Background: Tumor lysis syndrome (TLS) is an oncologic emergency that surfaces as a constellation of metabolic imbalances due to the rapid destruction of cancer cells and subsequent dissemination of their contents. However, a markedly rare subtype of TLS, known as spontaneous TLS (STLS), occurs without an evident trigger, such as cytotoxic therapy, and carries a similar mortality risk. It is paramount to recognize high-risk cases early and implement therapeutic measures to prevent complications of STLS.
Case Presentation: We present the case of a 74-year-old gentleman with a recent diagnosis of Kappa-restricted multiple myeloma who presented with worsening weakness, tremors, ataxia, …

HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine
Background
With recent changes made to move USMLE Step 1 and COMLEX Level 1 scores to Pass/Fail, it becomes necessary to find other metrics to evaluate residency candidates. One conserved metric included in all residency applications is medical school transcripts. This study aims to highlight the highly varied transcript reporting in a new era of holistic applicant review.
Methods
Medical school transcripts were extracted from the Electronic Residency Application Service applications to our anesthesiology residency program for the 2021-2022 application cycle. All personally identifiable information was removed. Results were categorized and tallied by 2 independent reviewers. Overall, we assessed transcript …
