Australian General Practice Training Program National Report On The 2018 National Registrar Survey, Rebecca Taylor, Leyna Clarke, Daniel Edwards
Australian General Practice Training Program National Report On The 2018 National Registrar Survey, Rebecca Taylor, Leyna Clarke, Daniel Edwards
Higher education research
The Australian General Practice Training National Registrar Survey (AGPT NRS) is an annual, national survey of GP registrars currently training in the AGPT program. It collects information via an online questionnaire about registrar satisfaction, experience and future career plans. It also collects information about registrars’ demographics and training contexts and other aspects of their training experience. This survey was previously known as the AGPT Registrar Satisfaction Survey (AGPT RSS). From July 31 to September 7 2018, the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) administered the AGPT NRS to registrars enrolled in active training on the AGPT program across 11 training …
Predicting First Term Success In An Associates Degree Nursing Program Using Cognitive And Noncognitive Factors, Richard Hilton Turner
Predicting First Term Success In An Associates Degree Nursing Program Using Cognitive And Noncognitive Factors, Richard Hilton Turner
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Since the late 1990s the nursing field has experienced increased demand for RN’s as well as a number of internal and external factors that have worsened this problem. College admissions officers have struggled to identify those students who are most likely to persist in an associate degree nursing (ADN) program. Estimates of programmatic attrition vary, but fall somewhere between 25-50%. A great deal of research has been expended in an attempt to determine which preadmission variables are most likely to indicate programmatic success. Unfortunately, no “best set” of admissions variables has been identified. The purpose of this research was to …

Evaluation Of Innovative Medical School Facilities And Consultant Recommendations, Tripp Umbach
Lincy Institute Reports and Briefs
In August 2018, The Lincy Institute1 retained Tripp Umbach2 to provide consultation to evaluate and identify best practices for medical school facilities and development models as the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) and the community embarks on the development of a home for the UNLV School of Medicine. To complete this assignment, Tripp Umbach completed a comprehensive process involving secondary data analysis and actively sought and received input from stakeholders including leadership at The Lincy Institute, UNLV School of Medicine, previous Tripp Umbach clients, leading design professionals with experience developing medical schools, and potential donors to the proposed project. …

Environmental health and public health are profoundly local. The Association of Environmental Health Academic Programs (AEHAP) firmly agrees and for this reason, it is important to have local environmental health experts who know the pulse of their communities. AEHAP believes in supporting the advanced scientific education of environmental health in these communities through people from these communities. Accordingly, AEHAP has sought to promote and support accredited environmental health programs among a diverse cross-section of the U.S. higher education landscape. AEHAP’s students are diverse in many ways, including socioeconomically, racially, ethnically, and culturally. The value of this approach enhances the overall …
Flipping The Flipped: The Co-Creational Classroom, Vuk Uskoković
Flipping The Flipped: The Co-Creational Classroom, Vuk Uskoković

The flip teaching model is being increasingly adopted by higher education institutions as an active learning alternative to traditional lecturing. However, the flip model shares a number of critical premises with the classical didactics. The further flips of the flip are thus advocated and the fear of returning the method to its initial state, prior to the flip, via such flips of the flipped dispelled. Proposed here is a seminal variation to the flip model based on the active involvement of students in searching, finding, selecting, and assembling knowledge from various literature sources into the learning material for the entire …

Background: Although many libraries have offered 3D printing as a service or available technology, there is a lack of information on course-integrated programs for 3D printing in which the library played a primary role. Therefore, librarians at the Touro College School of Health Sciences began exploring 3D printing for inclusion in the occupational and physical therapy curriculum. Case Presentation: The goal of this project was to educate occupational and physical therapy students and faculty about the potential applications of 3D printing in health care and provide hands-on experience, while increasing collaboration between librarians and faculty. Students’ tasks included designing and …
Advocating For More Experiential Learning Strategies In Medical School, Seth D. Adams
Advocating For More Experiential Learning Strategies In Medical School, Seth D. Adams
Undergraduate Voices
When it comes to learning and teaching, there are many ways for teachers and students to maximize the amount of learning that happens in the schooling environment. The focus of this paper is the effects of experiential learning in medical education. This pedagogy is very common in many teaching strategies and is widely used, debated, and studied throughout academia. This paper will introduce experiential learning as it is seen broadly throughout all fields of study and practice, but will then specifically focus on experiential learning and its effects on medical education. Using two different types of experiential learning, community-based learning …

The Australian General Practice Training National Registrar Survey (AGPT NRS) is an annual, national survey of GP registrars currently training in the AGPT program that collects information about registrar satisfaction, experience and future career plans. This survey is part of the Department of Health’s (the Department) monitoring and quality improvement activities and the information can be used to assure the quality of training provision, enable continuous improvement and allow results to be benchmarked nationally. Previously known as the AGPT Registrar Satisfaction Survey (AGPT RSS), the AGPT NRS also collects information on registrars’ demographics and training contexts and other aspects of …

The rise of "-omics" related technologies makes it essential for students to have experience working with large bioinformatics data sets. Although”-omic” datasets are complex and abstract, effective instruction can be improved when students see the direct connections between the data on a computer screen and the results of "wet lab" experimentation. Here we describe the use of protein mass spectrometry as a means for students to gain experience in connecting bioinformatic data with work done at the lab bench. Course-based Research Experiences (CREs) based on these techniques are accessible to institutions of all types as a result of rapidly declining …
