The effect of the interaction between gender and posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) prosthesis design on patient-reported outcomes is an understudied area of research. We evaluated 1613 patients, from the Ontario Joint Replacement Registry (2001-2006), who underwent primary total knee replacement. This study investigated the impact of the gender-PCL design interaction on Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) change scores and patient satisfaction, by performing linear regression analysis, using full-adjusted models that also included the gender-PCL prosthesis design interaction variable. PCL prosthesis design did not affect WOMAC change scores or satisfaction (p>0.05). Moreover, Gender did not influence either …

Genomic DNA was purified from Multiple Myeloma Cell Line JJN3, and BMF promoter region was PCR amplified and cloned into pCR 2.1 TOPO vector using One Shot® Chemically Competent E. coli. After confirmation of the clone through polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and restriction analysis, BMF promoter (2.5 Kb) was released from TOPO vector and subcloned into pGL3 promoter vector. The resulting pGL3-BMF-promoter vector was further amplified for MaxiPrep preparation. This plasmid can be used to study the regulation of BMF promoter by various transcription factors including NF-κB family members.

Amidst the worst disaster to impact a major U.S. city in one hundred years, New Orleans’ main trauma and safety net medical center, the Reverend Avery C. Alexander Charity Hospital, was permanently closed. Charity’s administrative operator, Louisiana State University (LSU), ordered an end to its attempted reopening by its workers and U.S. military personnel in the weeks following the August 29, 2005 storm. Drawing upon rigorous review of literature and an exhaustive analysis of primary and secondary data, this case study found that Charity Hospital was closed as a result of disaster capitalism. A review of the literature demonstrates that regular physical activity provides benefits to both mother and fetus during pregnancy. These benefits range from decreasing the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus to improving the mother's psychological well-being and can be obtained without causing harm to the fetus. The recommendations for physical activity during pregnancy include thirty minutes of physical activity on most, if not all, days of the week. In this dissertation, I focus on how health insurance expansion affects the supply side of health care markets as well as health expenditures. This research examined the impact of a two week new employee orientation training program on the general and social self-efficacy of newly hired direct care employees at state mental health facilities. The decision for adjuvant therapy in women with early stage breast cancer (ESBC) has historically been guided by the presence or absence of specific biological markers (hormone and HER2 receptors), age, and extent of nodal involvement. Oncotype DX® is a validated assay that quantifies protein expression that can predict the risk of cancer recurrence. This study evaluates if the use of Oncotype DX® impacts chemotherapy prescribing in ESBC. Forty- four percent of cigarettes purchased, are by persons with serious mental illness. This population dies approximately twenty- five years earlier than the general population. In 1993, American hospitals were mandated to become smokefree. At that time, psychiatric facilities requested variances amid concerns that their patients may present adverse behaviors due to nicotine withdrawal. Within the last five years, smoking bans have become more prevalent, resulting in many psychiatric facilities adhering to a no smoking policy.
