CONTEXT: Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) pose a substantial public health threat. Despite significant strides to curb HAIs in hospital environments, outpatient settings have not received the same degree of attention. Given their emphasis on holistic, patient-centered care, osteopathic family medicine offices are pivotal in both disease prevention and comprehensive patient treatment. The importance of simple yet effective disinfection protocols, such as thorough cleaning between patient appointments, cannot be overstated in these settings because they are integral to minimizing disease transmission.

Healthcare has adjusted workflows to accommodate for more robust disinfecting regiments to help protect the community. This has resulted in the need for medical institutions to reevaluate the current disinfection protocols down to the student level. The osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) laboratory provides an optimal avenue for assessing the effectiveness of medical students' ability to clean examination tables. Acinetobacter baumannii is an opportunistic pathogen common in intensive care units (ICUs), particularly among immunocompromised individuals. Nosocomial A. baumannii infections have become increasingly problematic in recent years, as these bacteria rapidly acquire antibiotic resistance, leading to the emergence of multidrug, extensively drug and pan drug-resistant (MDR, XDR, and PDR, respectively) isolates. The phenocopy syndrome of behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia is one which mimics the behavioral variant of frontotemporal dementia. Normal saline and balanced crystalloids, such as lactated Ringer's (LR) and Plasma-Lyte A, are commonly used in the emergency setting for fluid resuscitation. However, there has been growing interest in recent years in whether balanced crystalloids may be superior to normal saline, particularly in critically ill patients.

Normal saline has been the traditional fluid of choice for decades due to its widespread availability, low cost, and presumed safety. However, normal saline has a high chloride concentration (154 mmol/L), which can lead to hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis and other adverse effects, such as renal vasoconstriction and reduced renal blood flow.

Systemic epinephrine toxicity is a rare complication following inadvertent or excessively large or rapid subcutaneous, intramuscular or intravenous administration. Signs and symptoms of epinephrine toxicity include rapid onset of transient agitation, hypertension, tachycardia, lactic acidosis, and dysrhythmias with potentially fatal consequences. In this case report, we present a 33-year-old female who experienced epinephrine toxicity following the use of a topical anesthetic cream containing lidocaine and epinephrine. The patient had multiple applications to her chest before and during tattoo placement which led to tachycardia, elevated blood pressure, headache, chest pain, nausea, vomiting, and anxiety. As America continues to face the opioid epidemic, numerous people have made great strides in receiving formal treatment for their opioid use disorder (OUD). This research seeks to examine the effects providing OMT along with traditional OUD pharmacological methods in providing results for patients. By utilizing prior research on OMT techniques, we were able to uncover how effective OMT can be in reducing the time and discomfort associated with seeking opioid recovery. Production of inflammatory and non-inflammatory metabolites by the gut- microbiota directly and indirectly affects the brain and mood. Therefore, colonization by maladaptive, pro-inflammatory bacteria may cause mood dysregulation and depressive features. Metabolites from these bacteria can be quantitatively analyzed for use as biomarkers of Major Depressive Disorder. Biomarkers studied include: serotonin, dopamine, butyrate, acetate, and propionate.

In 2002 there were approximately 1.7 million healthcare associated infections, resulting in about 99,000 annual deaths. Appropriate disinfection of environmentally contaminated surfaces are required to reduce transmission of pathogens. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) bioluminescence is being used in hospital settings to audit the cleanliness in the hospital settings. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy was first performed in the United States in 1982, and by 1992 it became standard practice. The first robotic cholecystectomy was performed in 1997, yet it still has not been widely accepted as the standard of care. Many research papers early on in the development of robotic-assisted surgery concluded that robotically removing gallbladders would be more costly and less time efficient.
