Various Synthetic Pathways Towards Efavirenz And Its Analogs; The Replacement Of The Side Chain, Elizabeth S. Bautista

Cyclopropyl acetylene (CA) is a key intermediate in the synthesis of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) reverse transcriptase inhibitor, Efavirenz (EFV), an antiviral drug used to treat HIV. CA is an expensive raw material, difficult to obtain, and employed in the preparation of medications to combat acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). It was found that the structure could be synthesized by the utilization of PCl5; however, this resulted in unwanted ring opening products. As each year passes, a fatal cardiovascular event continues to be the leading cause of death among on-duty firefighters. Risk factors for a fatal cardiovascular event and cardiovascular health disease (CVD) are obesity, sleep deprivation, weight gain, lack of exercise, unhealthy diet, etc. The research in this thesis lays out the poor association between cardiovascular health and firefighters. Interventional programs that aim to improve the cardiovascular health of firefighters must be implemented universally to all fire departments by the International Association of Firefighters.
