Study Retention And Physical Properties Of Conventional And Microwave-Cured Acrylic Resin Complete Denture: An In-Vivo And In-Vitro Investigation, Fardos N. Rizk, Amany Elhadary Oct 2016

Study Retention And Physical Properties Of Conventional And Microwave-Cured Acrylic Resin Complete Denture: An In-Vivo And In-Vitro Investigation, Fardos N. Rizk, Amany Elhadary

Dentistry

Aim: This study was two folded: an in-vivo study to compare the retentive properties of Lucitone conventional cured denture base resin and Nature-Cryl MC microwave cured denture base resin and an in-vitro study to compare the internal adaptation, fracture resistance, roughness, hardness and colour stability of these two materials and correlate the laboratory results with each other and with the clinical results. Materials and Methods: Twenty completely edentulous male patients received twenty complete dentures constructed from Lucitone conventional cured denture base resin. The retentive properties of the upper complete dentures were measured using force measurement gauge at one week, one …

Managing Peri-Implantitis, Namita Khandelwal Aug 2016

Managing Peri-Implantitis, Namita Khandelwal

Dental Medicine Faculty Publications

This guide, used by MetLife for its dental continuing education program, focuses on the inflammatory pathology around dental implants. It outlines the risk factors and diagnostic criteria for peri-implantitis, an inflammatory process resulting in progressive loss of bone around the implant. The guide also provides treatment approaches for peri-implantitis, including surgical and non-surgical options.

Effect Of Two Different Maxillary Treatment Options On Supporting Structures Of Mini Implant Retained Mandibular Overdenture, Fardos N. Rizk Jul 2016

Effect Of Two Different Maxillary Treatment Options On Supporting Structures Of Mini Implant Retained Mandibular Overdenture, Fardos N. Rizk

Dentistry

Objectives: This study was conducted to evaluate whether maxillary conventional complete denture or narrow diameter implant retained maxillary overdenture is more compatible on opposing crestal bone height surrounding mini implants retaining mandibular overdenture. Materials and Methods: Fourteen male completely edentulous patients received mandibular overdentures retained by four one piece mini implants with ERA attachments placed anterior to the mental foramen. Patients were randomly divided into two groups: Group I received opposing maxillary conventional complete denture and Group II received opposing maxillary overdenture retained by four one piece narrow diameter implants with ball attachments placed in the anterior maxilla. Once patients …

Background: To adequately perform rehabilitation of edentulous patients by a complete removable dental prosthesis (CRDP) is from basic interest to dentists to understand the morphologic changes caused by re-establishment of a physiologic jaw relationship. Anthropometric analyses of standardized frontal view and profile photographs may help elucidate such changes. Material and Methods: Photographs of 31 edentulous patients were compared in relaxed lip closure and after insertion of a CRDP in stable occlusion. 2232 anthropometric distances were raised. Eighteen anthropometric indices reflecting the perioral morphology and its integration in the vertical facial harmony were investigated. Results: The intercanthal – mouth width index …

Objective Evaluation Of Clinical Shade-Matching Outcomes., Erin Ballard May 2016

Objective Evaluation Of Clinical Shade-Matching Outcomes., Erin Ballard

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to objectively evaluate shade-matching outcomes within an academic institution. Using the Spectrophotometer, E was calculated between the reference shade: restoration shade () and restoration shade: prescription shade (). The t-test was used to determine if E maintained clinical acceptance at E: 3.7. Satisfaction with shade-match and need for objective measurement were surveyed using a Five Point Likert Scale. Correlational relationships were assessed via Pearson Correlation. Mean E values were above the acceptance value (pppp

Evaluation Of Die Trim Morphology Made By Cad/Cam Technology, Pratiksha Agrawal Apr 2016

Evaluation Of Die Trim Morphology Made By Cad/Cam Technology, Pratiksha Agrawal

Master's Theses (2009 -)

Purpose: The purpose of this vitro study was to evaluate the accuracy of the morphology of digitally trimmed dies in comparison with the subgingival contour of a prepared tooth to be restored with a single crown. Materials and Methods: 20 human extracted teeth, 10 incisors and 10 molars were disinfected, mounted on dentoforms. The teeth were prepared for a single all ceramic restoration. Digital impressions of the preparations were made using the 3M Lava COS. With the data, the SLA models were fabricated with removable dies. The prepared tooth and the corresponding dies were then compared with the Rhino software. …

Comparison Of Retention Between Milled And Conventional Denture Bases: A Clinical Study, Abdulaziz Abdullah Alhelal Mar 2016

Comparison Of Retention Between Milled And Conventional Denture Bases: A Clinical Study, Abdulaziz Abdullah Alhelal

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

The advancement in dental material technology led to the improvement in the fabrication method of PMMA denture bases. Denture base adaptation can be influenced by the amount of polymerization shrinkage that occurs during the processing method of fabrication. CAD/CAM dentures milled from prepolymerized PMMA acrylic resin blocks theoretically have reduced or no polymerization shrinkage. There have been no clinical studies, to date, that have compared retention values between milled and conventionally processed denture bases. Therefore, the purpose of this study clinical study was to compare the retention values between conventional heat polymerized and digital milled maxillary denture bases.

Twenty patients …

Effects Of Microwave Irradiation On The Dimensional Stability Of Complete Denture Bases, Miguel Pappaterra Mar 2016

Effects Of Microwave Irradiation On The Dimensional Stability Of Complete Denture Bases, Miguel Pappaterra

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

Introduction: Maintenance for complete dentures is a role that must be undertaken by the patient. It has been determined that two minutes of microwave irradiation at 650 Watts provides denture disinfection, and three minutes provide sterilization32,34. There is insufficient data on how this practice affects the long term dimensional stability of commonly used complete denture bases in the United States. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to perform an in-vitro investigation, testing and comparing the effects of microwave irradiation on the dimensional stability of three types of complete denture bases. Materials and Methods: An edentulous master cast with reference …
