This study's purpose was to determine which sequence of dental biofilm removal is more effective, toothbrushing followed by flossing or flossing followed by toothbrushing. The study was conducted using an experimental approach with a split mouth design. A pre and post plaque index score was determined for each participant using Ramfjord’s tooth assignment and all data was recorded on a plaque control data sheet. Wound healing is slower in aged patients. Immediately after tooth extraction, fibroblasts are activated to rebuild the ECM, which is later remodeled through the expression of MMPs. Gene expression may be altered in fibroblasts of aged patients leading to deficiencies in ECM deposition and the recruitment and proliferation of immune cells, resulting in a slow-healing fibrotic wound.

Cancer chemotherapy compromises the patient’s oral health through dysbiosis of oral microbiota and increases the prevalence of dental cavities, gingivitis, oral mucositis, and xerostomia. This research aimed to evaluate the effect of a common chemotherapeutic agent, Fluorouracil (5-FU), on certain microorganisms that are common within the oral cavity. Varying concentrations (50 μM, 75 μM and 100μM) of 5-FU were used to simulate the dosage that reaches the oral cavity after intravenous delivery.
