Purpose: To evaluate the antibacterial activity of three natural plant extracts (Ginger, Green tea and Pomegranate peel) versus Chlorhexidine using Sucrose and Stevia Sugar. Materials and Methods: extracts of the three natural materials were prepared where an aqueous extract of green tea was prepared by boiling, and pomegranate peel and ginger were extracted using ethyl alcohol. Carious dentin samples were obtained from carious permanent molars. Streptococcus mutans were isolated and identified. The extracts were compared to chlorohexidine using either no sugar, sucrose or stevia sugar. Antibacterial activity was assessed through the inhibition zone, bacterial count and metabolic activity. Ginger, pomegranate …

Commentary: Phytocannabinoids As Therapeutic Agents To Combat Chronic Gingival Disease., Nick Narek Ohanian

Pacific Journal of Health

The therapeutic potential of cannabis has been harnessed for thousands of years yet the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has still not approved cannabis as a safe or effective drug. The FDA has, however, approved the manufacturing of pharmaceutical drugs, which contain a “synthetic version of a substance that is present in the marijuana” and other compounds that mimic its action. A search of the US National Library of Medicine and National Institute of Health for keywords “CBD” and “Periodontitis” together yields only 2 publications. Although the current State and Federal regulations on the use of cannabis for …

Replacing A Single Tooth: Single Implant Vs. Three Unit Bridge, Ibeth Erazo, Aneeza Hussain May 2020

Replacing A Single Tooth: Single Implant Vs. Three Unit Bridge, Ibeth Erazo, Aneeza Hussain

Publications and Research

There are more than two options for restoring a single tooth but our research includes a three-unit bridge and a single-tooth implant as the main options. In this paper, we discuss the advantages and disadvantages of these methods and the factors that must be considered when choosing between them for the replacement of a single tooth. Although in some cases a three-unit bridge is the most appropriate choice, implants have the advantage of allowing preservation of the integrity of sound teeth adjacent to the edentulous area. Many factors must be considered when choosing between a three-unit bridge and an implant …

In the oral cavity, anxiety is often associated with the etiology of parafunctional habits. Anxiety can be measured using self-administered instruments, such as the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and Short-Health Anxiety Inventory (SHAI), which is specifically used in the medical setting. Objectives: We are describing a case of HIV positive patient with health anxiety who presented to the oral medicine clinic in our hospital with a complaint of …

Odontomas are one of the most frequently found odontogenic tumors that consist of dental tissues. Odontomas have been classified into two types: compound and complex odontomas. They are usually discovered on routine radiographic examination. In rare cases, the odontoma erupt into the oral cavity, called an erupted odontoma. The first case was published in 1980, and since then, there have been not more than 50 cases being reported in the literature. Most of the reported cases are erupted complex odontoma. This case report represents a rare case of an erupted compound odontoma in a young patient who came with the …
