Cone Beam Computed Tomography Versus Intraoral Digital Radiography In Detection And Measurements Of Simulated Periodontal Bone Defects Diagnostic Accuracy Study, Marwa Ezz, Hossam Kandil

Dentistry

Detection and accurate assessmentof periodontal disease is important to determine the tooth prognosis and treatment. Radiographic assessment provides information about the pattern and extent of the alveolar bone loss. Digital radiography has ability to enhance images and make direct measurements. CBCT provides unique 3D images used for diagnosis and treatment plans, but its use in periodontology not well-reviewed as there is few number of studies searched about the role of CBCT in periodontology. We compare digital radiography with CBCTin the detection and measurements of different bone defects. Dry jaws with simulated bone defects were imaged by CBCT and Digital radiography …

Dentistry

Objectives: Oral ulceration forms a major category of oral lesions. Due to its effect on the quality of life, the patients seek treatment using various substances. This study investigated the types of treatments used by a sample of patients having all types of oral ulcers and its positive and negative effects on the patients' lives. Methods: This cross-sectional study included patients having different types of oral ulcers. Participants provided information about their previous treatments, the source of recommendation of its use and side effects linked to them. They filled the oral health impact profile-14 questionnaire to report the change in …

Relation Of Oral Ulcers To Quality Of Life: A Cross-Sectional Study, Enji Ahmed, Ayat Gaml Abdelnasser, Mai Zakaria, Soheir Gafar

Dentistry

Oral ulcers affect many dental patients; impairing their lives physically, psychologically, and socially. Due to the absence of information about oral ulcers in our population, the authors undertook a pilot study to obtain a more complete picture of prevalence of oral ulcers, its probable risk factors and its burden on the quality of life. Materials and methods The authors performed a cross‑sectional study with 605 adult dental patients. All patients filled a questionnaire inquiring about the risk factors. An oral examination was performed to each participant to determine presence or absence of oral ulcers; and the type of the oral …

The Effect Of Smoking On Clinical Presentation And Expression Of Tlr-2 And Cd34 In Oral Lichen Planus Patients: Clinical And Immunohistochemical Study, Enji Ahmed Mahmoud, Nermin Yousif, Nermin Raouf Jan 2020

The Effect Of Smoking On Clinical Presentation And Expression Of Tlr-2 And Cd34 In Oral Lichen Planus Patients: Clinical And Immunohistochemical Study, Enji Ahmed Mahmoud, Nermin Yousif, Nermin Raouf

Dentistry

Background: Oral lichen planus is a chronic inflammatory disease which is considered as a potential precancerous condition. Numerous studies have confirmed that inflammation is a strong risk factor for cancer development. Smoking is associated with potentially malignant disorders of the oral and oropharyngeal mucosa. The adverse consequences of smoking in various pathologies are mediated by its effects on the immune-inflammatory system. Little is known about the influence of cigarette smoke content on the course of OLP and inflammatory response. Methods: Twenty oral lichen planus smoker patients, 20 oral lichen planus non-smoker patients and 20 control patients were included in this …

Expression Of Endocan And Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor In Recurrent Minor Aphthous Ulcers, Enji Ahmed Mahmoud, Wesam Abdelmonem, Olfat Gamil Shaker, Dalia Mohey-Eldien Ghalwash

Dentistry

Background: Recurrent aphthous ulcers (RAU) are common painful inflammatory lesions of the mucous lining of the mouth. Endocan, previously identified as endothelial cell specific molecule-1, is implicated as a vital player in the regulation of several inflammatory processes. A number of inflammatory cytokines and pro-angiogenic growth factors including VEGF upregulate endothelial cells synthesis and expression of endocan. Material and Methods: Clinical scores of pain and ulcer size as well as level of endocan and VEGF were determined in swaps from aphthous ulcer and contra lateral normal mucosa in 30 patients (nine males and twenty one females) with age ranging from …
