Changes In Stress Distribution Of Orthodontic Miniscrew And Surrounding Bone At Different Angles And Heights - Fem Study, Miranda Mathews
Changes In Stress Distribution Of Orthodontic Miniscrew And Surrounding Bone At Different Angles And Heights - Fem Study, Miranda Mathews
Annual Research Symposium
Miniscrews is introduced as absolute anchorage devices in orthodontic treatment. They are efficient in overcoming anchorage loss. The miniscrew implants can be placed at different heights and angles in the positions determined for various clinical requirements. In this study, we used these parameters for determining the changes in stress distribution on the supporting bone and the miniscrews itself using finite element analysis. The aim of this study is to determine changes in stress distribution on the supporting bone and miniscrew implant at different alveolar crestal heights in different angulations using Finite Element Analysis.
Comparative Evaluation Of Bone Thickness In Infrazygomatic Crest Region For Optimal Insertion Of Bone Screws : A Cbct Study, Kavya Mp
Annual Research Symposium
Infrazygomatic crest (IZC) is a palpable bony ridge running between the alveolar ridge and the zygomatic process of maxilla. IZC bone dimension is an important factor in the safety and stability of bone screws. IZC thickness depends on the site of insertion, angulation and height from the occlusal plane. This study embarks on a comprehensive Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) exploration, to assess infra zygomatic Crest bone thickness.

Annual Research Symposium
Teledentistry is a combination of telecommunications and dentistry involving the exchange of clinical information and images over remote distances for dental consultation and treatment planning. Teledentists are capable of improving access to oral healthcare, increasing the provision of oral health care and reducing its costs. The disparities in oral health care between rural and urban areas could also be eliminated. This article analyses the origin, rationale, scope, basis and requirements of teledentistry in conjunction with current evidence available in the literature. Ethical and legal issues relating to teledentistry, as well as the future of this alternative and innovative way of …

A Dentist's Role In The Delivery Of Culturally Competent Oral Health Care To Transgender Patients, Laura Rhein Dds, Benjamin Solomowitz Dmd, Michael Mand Dds
The New York State Dental Journal
The importance of delivering patient-centered care is understood by professionals across all healthcare fields. But to deliver such patient-centered care involves understanding various patient populations, especially marginalized populations. Rendering non-biased, non-prejudicial care to marginalized populations is irrefutably critical. To do so, it requires understanding the specific needs of these at-risk populations to deliver high quality patient-centered care. The transgender community is one marginalized population that faces inequities in healthcare. This article seeks to examine current literature to reveal such inequities that the transgender population encounters in dental care and to explore the dentist’s role in the delivery of culturally competent …

People living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH) have an increased life expectancy due to advances in antiretroviral therapy. In 1996, the life expectancy for a 20-year old living with HIV was 39-years old; today, it is >70-years old. As life expectancy increases, PLWH are burdened with age-associated comorbidities. This paper reviews the interaction between aging and HIV and how it affects social, physical, and oral health issues. The shift in demographics presents new challenges for clinicians in how to identify, address, and manage these complex manifestations. This review summarizes how to approach HIV-related changes when providing care as a dental clinician.

An Exploratory Look Into The Effects Of Mississippi's Population Decline On Rural Dental Care, Allen Bailey Saffold
An Exploratory Look Into The Effects Of Mississippi's Population Decline On Rural Dental Care, Allen Bailey Saffold
Honors Theses
Literature reviews and interviews with dentists working in rural Mississippi counties examined the effects of population decline on rural dental care in Mississippi. With the state’s continual population decline, loss of industry follows a loss of people. Through a cascade of effects, this can further reduce underserved areas’ access to dental care. In order to address the issue of rural Mississippi continuing to be underserved, policies need to be implemented that will make rural practice at least enticing if not desirable.

Disparities In Oral Health: Socioeconomic Status And Policies To Increase Access To Primary Dental Care, Mckenzie Nutter
Theses/Capstones/Creative Projects
Primary dental care is a patient-centered service consisting of routine dental checkups. The oral cavity is the first point of entrance to the body for many harmful pathogens. Therefore, primary dental care is essential to not only prevent and treat conditions in the mouth, but to also reduce the number of systemic diseases in the rest of the body. However, people with higher incomes or wealth have increased access to primary dental care. People with low socioeconomic status have decreased access to primary dental care, at least in part due to difficulties in paying for separate dental insurance. Disparities in …

The Skill Of Critical Appraisal: Determining If The Results Are Valid, Julie Frantsve-Hawley Phd
The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association
This article continues the Journal's series on implementing the Evidence-Based Dentistry (EBD) process into clinical practice. The abundance of scientific literature can make finding the best evidence to answer a clinical question challenging. This article presents strategies for critically appraising literature to ensure the validity and reliability of its conclusions.Implementing evidence-based dentistry requires the adept integration of current evidence into clinical practice. A robust evidence-based approach hinges on the provider's competence in identifying and effectively applying evidence to practice. This entails addressing three key questions: 1) Are the results valid? 2) What are the results? and 3) Can the evidence …
