Background: The spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has led to a major public health issue. This study aimed to assess the factors that influence the Lebanese people in undergoing an orthodontic treatment after the outbreak of COVID-19, as well as the factors that influence their choice of orthodontic appliance type. Methods: 489 Lebanese participants (199 men and 290 women) were invited to fill a questionnaire developed on Google Forms. Eligible participants were simply Lebanese people including those who immigrated during the crisis. Dentists, dental students and foreigners were excluded from the study. While moving teeth under orthodontic force, there are unavoidable tissue reaction due to the forces applied to the dental pulp and periodontal tissue. Under appropriate orthodontic treatment planning, most of the tissue reactions were limited to temporary pulpitis, blunting of dental root apex etc. However, a few patients will start up serious reactions such as dental pulp obliteration, tooth discoloration, dental pulp necrosis, or even severe apical root resorption and invasive cervical root resorption. Three-dimensional planning of a dental-implant site is critical when the dental implants placed in the edentulous area are to be used initially as anchor for tooth movement and later as prosthetic abutments for the fixed restoration. The combined orthodontic and prosthetic implant restorative treatment of an adult patient with missing teeth, diastema of teeth, and malocclusion is described in this article. Plastic cast bases combined with customized position plates allowed the precise transfer of the proposed implant position from the diagnostic arrangement to the original cast to avoid compromising subsequent orthodontic treatment.

Orthodontic treatment has become popular now in Taiwan, and motivation of orthodontic treatment is a key factor of treatment outcome; therefore, understanding the motivation of orthodontic patients is very important. There are many studies focusing on motivation of orthodontic patients; however, Taiwan is still lack of sufficient sample in related issue. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) makes up approximately 75% to 80% of childhood leukemia. Longterm survivors through current medical management make orthodontic treatment available. However, the risk of these patients should be carefully evaluated. After the patient has completed all cancer therapy and has at least a 2-year event-free survival, orthodontic treatment can be started. Patients with ALL sometimes have to accept a compromised treatment result and finish the treatment earlier than normal due to the concerns of recurrence. Tooth transposition is a rare but disturbing problem for patients in esthetic and functional aspects. In this report, we describe a case with unilateral transposition of the maxillary canine and premolar. The patient received full mouth non-extraction orthodontic treatment with upper 1st premolar substitution for upper canine. Crown morphology modification and gingival plastic surgery for harmonious anterior esthetics and function were performed. Patient was satisfied with the treatment outcome.

Purpose: The prevalence of medical disputes or controversies in orthodontic treatment is getting higher and higher in Taiwan. Nevertheless, the related researches and literatures are few. The purpose of this study was to investigate and analyze the situation of medical disputes or controversies in clinical orthodontic practice in Taiwan. Materials and methods: The investigation was done by the questionnaire survey among the dentists who perform orthodontic treatment as either part or all of his/her clinical practice. This is a case report about an adult female patient with bilateral idiopathic condylar resorption. Extraoral check revealed obvious convex profile with retruded chin, lip incompetence; intraoral check revealed class I malocclusion with moderate crowding. Owing to the bilateral condylar resorption, the condyle position may not be easily hold during operation; besides, trying to maintain the integrity of whole mandible to avoid post treatment relapse. The final treatment plan was orthodontic treatment combined with LeFort I osteotomy. After post-surgical active retention for 1 year, final results showed improved facial profile. Summary: An adult male (20 years old) came to our clinic with a chief complaint of lower posterior crowding. Clinical examination found mild spacing over the lower anterior teeth and lingually blocked-in lower second premolars. Because the patient didn’t want to receive extraction treatment, ISW (improved superelastic Ti-Ni alloy wire) leveling was performed to relieve lower arch crowding. Through critical appraisal, the author of this article answers the clinical question of the effectiveness of vacuum-formed retainers (VFRs) compared to bonded orthodontic retainers in maintaining tooth positioning and promoting oral hygiene. The study reviews existing literature and highlights the challenges in evaluating the two types of retainers, primarily due to patient compliance with VFRs.
