Face Asymmetry And Mandibular Bite Collapse Corrected With Orthognathic Surgery And Miniscrews In A Patient With Wilson’S Disease, Yi-Chin Wang, Ellen Wen-Ching Ko, Philip Kuo-Ting Chen

Taiwanese Journal of Orthodontics

An adult female patient aged 34 years and 8 months with Wilson’s disease, a rare autosomal recessive genetic disorder, demonstrated poor chewing ability and facial asymmetry which were worsened gradually since the disease attacked her 10 years ago. She was treated by surgical orthodontics with minimal presurgical orthodontic decompensation. We designed an atypical maxillary anterior subapical osteotomy to close the maxillary incisor pontic space, retract anterior segment of the maxilla, and maintain the dental midline simultaneously. The mandible deviation was corrected by bilateral sagittal split osteotomies. Severe bilateral posterior bite collapses were uprighted effectively and efficiently by miniscrews combined with …

Correction Of A Lingual Tipped Mandibular Second Molar With Miniscrew Orthodontics – Case Report, Chun-Hung Yu, Sam Sheng-Pin Hsu, Yang-Ming Chang Aug 2022

Correction Of A Lingual Tipped Mandibular Second Molar With Miniscrew Orthodontics – Case Report, Chun-Hung Yu, Sam Sheng-Pin Hsu, Yang-Ming Chang

Taiwanese Journal of Orthodontics

A case of a 14 y/o male patient with a lingually impacted mandibular right 2nd molar was presented. After the third molar was extracted, a closed coil spring was used to connect the impaction to a miniscrew inserted in the nearby buccal shelf. Throughout the treatment process, all orthodontic appliances were hidden underneath the flap. The advantage of this closing flap technique is that it improves patient comfort while minimizing irritation to the surround muscle and soft tissue. Treatment options for uprighting lingually impacted mandibular 2nd molar, clinical considerations of orthodontic miniscrew placement, and design of biomechanics were also discussed.

Orthodontic Molar Uprighting - Literature Review, Hsin-Yi Hsieh, Wen-Ching Ko, Chiung-Shing Huang Aug 2022

Orthodontic Molar Uprighting - Literature Review, Hsin-Yi Hsieh, Wen-Ching Ko, Chiung-Shing Huang

Taiwanese Journal of Orthodontics

Tipped molar is a relatively common occurrence in adult dentition. The objective in orthodontic molar uprighting is ideal positioning of the molar which will eventually become an abutment tooth for a fixed prothesis. The ideal position will improve the periodontal environment for the molar. The benefits provided by molar uprignting are: abutment preparations are simplified; pontic design is improved; reduced mesial periodontal infra-bony defect and so on. In present review article, several appliances and techniques are described for uprighting molars.
