Clinical Management Of Impacted Upper Canines From A To Z – Literature Review, Heng-Ming Mark Chang, Wen-Lieh Lin

The incidence of upper canine impaction is from 1% to 3%, which is the second commonest impaction tooth in the month. With regard to this impacted canine, there are many aspects can be discussed from clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, surgical exposure technique, forced eruption method, retention and so on. This review article will address on these issues according to current literature and help clinicians to have a clear picture on the impacted upper canine.

A case report was presented with a female patient of class II malocclusion,bimaxillary dentoalveolar protrusion with space deficiency. Bilateral lower left second molars were mesially inclined impactions with large caries. The lower left second molar was diagnosed with acute apical periodontitis. Treatment planning was described as below: (1) asymmetric extraction of upper bilateral first premolar , lower right first premolar and lower left second molar, (2) A bone screw was placed in the lower left region for distalization of lower left dentition and midline control. Management Of Impacted Maxillary Central Incisors, Wen-Ching Tsai, Lin-Chan Lao

Although the incidence of impaction of the upper central incisor is not so frequent, with about 0.06% to 0.2% incidence rate, the occlusal relationship and symmetric esthetics of upper anterior dentition are obviously affected. The patient’s psychology may also be altered while situation getting worse. Thus, the differential diagnosis and treatment modalities for impaction of upper central incisor should be emphasized. For the guidance of clinical treatment, the following text would focus on factors about impaction of upper central incisor including the etiology, diagnostic method, treatment principles, and also the post-treatment rehabilitation and retention.
