Canine Substitution For Upper Central Incisor In A Case Of Upper Anterior Teeth Impaction, Liew Chee Ping, Yu-Ling Huang, Hao-Hueng Chang, Ling-Yu Chang, Chung-Chen Jane Yao

Taiwanese Journal of Orthodontics

Concurrent impaction and transposition of the maxillary anterior teeth is unusual and may present a great challenge to dental practice. Early diagnosis and elimination of impacted anterior teeth helps provide esthetic and functional outcomes. This case report describes an 18-year-old female whose teeth 13, 11 and 23 (FDI tooth numbering) had dilacerated labial impaction. Teeth 53 and 63 were retained primary teeth. The patient was treated with extraction of teeth 53, 11, 23 and 63, and substitution of teeth 13 for 11, 14 for 13, and 24 for 23. Surgical exposure of tooth 13 was done to tract the impaction …

Surgical-Orthodontic Treatment Of A Skeletal Class Iii Malocclusion With Canine Substitution For Peg Lateral Incisors - Case Report, Chih-Ying Hsu, Hsin-Yi Lo, Kwong-Wa Li, Lian-Ru Chen, Jeng-Fen Liu Aug 2022

Surgical-Orthodontic Treatment Of A Skeletal Class Iii Malocclusion With Canine Substitution For Peg Lateral Incisors - Case Report, Chih-Ying Hsu, Hsin-Yi Lo, Kwong-Wa Li, Lian-Ru Chen, Jeng-Fen Liu

Taiwanese Journal of Orthodontics

The overall prevalence of peg-shaped maxillary permanent lateral incisors was 1.8%. The occurrence rates were higher in Mongoloid (3.1%) than in black (1.5%) and white (1.3%) patients. The presence of peg lateral incisors was also a complicated esthetic issue for orthodontist. This case is a skeletal Class III malocclusion 20-years-old male. His problems were mild maxillary skeletal retrognathism combined with mandibular prognathism, anterior crossbite, peg lateral incisors, and upper arch crowding. Treatment involved extraction of two maxillary lateral incisors. Maxillary canine substituted for lateral incisors. Before orthognathic surgery, the extraction spaces were closed for crowding relief of upper arch and …

Orthodontic Treatment With Maxillary Canine Substitution For Lateral Incisor – A Case Report, Pei-Chun Twu, Chia-Chen Li, Shen-Chieh Lin, Hwai-Jen Fong, Tzu-Ying Wu Aug 2022

Orthodontic Treatment With Maxillary Canine Substitution For Lateral Incisor – A Case Report, Pei-Chun Twu, Chia-Chen Li, Shen-Chieh Lin, Hwai-Jen Fong, Tzu-Ying Wu

Taiwanese Journal of Orthodontics

Patients with peg lateral incisors combined space discrepancy can be treated by either replacing or restoring the lateral incisor after space redistribution, or by removing peg lateral incisor and positioning the canine to simulate the lateral incisor. This case report describes the treatment of a 14-year-old female. Her chief complaint is upper left side canine impaction. It is also found she has bilateral peg-shaped maxillary lateral incisors. Treatment involved extraction of two maxillary lateral incisors and two mandibular second premolars. Maxillary canines and first premolars substituted for lateral incisors and canines. After 26 months of treatment, the esthetic was improved …

Treatment Of Angle Class Iii Malocclusion With Lateral Incisor Congenital Missing With Facemask – Case Report, Hsin-Yi Lo, Kwong-Wa Li, Lian-Ru Chen, Ming-Lun Hong, Jeng-Fen Liu Aug 2022

Treatment Of Angle Class Iii Malocclusion With Lateral Incisor Congenital Missing With Facemask – Case Report, Hsin-Yi Lo, Kwong-Wa Li, Lian-Ru Chen, Ming-Lun Hong, Jeng-Fen Liu

Taiwanese Journal of Orthodontics

Protraction facemask is one of the common effective methods to treat the patient with maxillary deficiency in mixed dentition and adolescent patients. In this case report, we present the treatment of a 10-year-old female patient with skeletal class III with maxillary retrognathism, anterior crossbite, left lateral incisor congenital missing, right peg lateral incisor and midline discrepancy with class III malocclusion. Treatment plan included protraction facemask with rapid maxillary expansion therapy, extraction of right peg lateral incisor and canine substitution. We also used temporary anchorage device (TAD) for molar asymmetry and midline correction while using facemask protraction to reach the bilateral …

Clinical Managements For Missing Maxillary Lateral Incisors – Literature Review, Chih-Yu Lin, Li-Hsiang Lin Aug 2022

Clinical Managements For Missing Maxillary Lateral Incisors – Literature Review, Chih-Yu Lin, Li-Hsiang Lin

Taiwanese Journal of Orthodontics

The etiology of missing maxillary lateral incisors may include congenital missing ones, and previous extractions due to traumatic injury or large dental caries. Spacing and malocclusions following missing maxillary lateral incisors often result in significant impacts on facial esthetics and oral function. To treat these patients, there are orthodontic alternatives to choose from: (1) canine substitution, (2) autotransplantation, (3) conventional prosthetic restorations, and (4) single implants. The aim of this article is to review the prevalence of congenital missing maxillary lateral incisors, and the above-mentioned treatment options for managing missing maxillary lateral incisors.
