Background: Oral and periodontal manifestations are common in systemic sclerosis (SSc) which may result in poor nutritional status and significant morbidity. Better understanding of these manifestations is crucial for better patient outcomes. We aimed to evaluate dental and oral manifestations in patients with SSc in comparison to healthy control and to study the relationship between these findings and systemic sclerosis disease activity index, skin thickness, other systemic affection, as well as the oral health-related quality of life in these patients Patients and Methods: 50 patients with SSc were included in this case-control study (Group A) and 50 apparently healthy controls …

Background: RA is a chronic immune-mediated systemic disorder; its pathogenesis is complex. Genetic, environmental, hormonal, and lifestyle are the main risk factors. The correlation between oral health and RA is rising. Oral manifestations in RA include temporomandibular joint disorder, secondary Sjögren’s syndrome, xerostomia, and periodontal disease. Previous studies suggest a bidirectional relationship between RA and periodontal diseases. This study aims to detect oral mucosal and dental disease in RA patients and its relation to demographic features, disease activity, and extra-articular manifestation. Patients and Methods: This cross-sectional study included 150 patients with RA allocated into two groups, 75 patients in each …

The diagnoses were Class II division 1 malocclusion, combined with bilateral posterior crossbite and deep overbite. After periodontal inflammation was under well controlled, complicated orthodontic teeth movements were achieved with the aid of TADs. The orthodontic treatment includes the retraction of maxillary anterior teeth and intrusion and palatal movement of upper right segment. In the lower arch, the …

Adult orthodontic treatment has become increasingly popular. The primary motivating factor for seeking orthodontic treatment in adults is facial and dental esthetics, especially the alignment of their anterior teeth. Pathologic migration of anterior teeth is a common cause of esthetic concern among adult patients. The anchorage control is very important in the orthodontic treatment for the dentition with compromised periodontal support. Mini-implant anchorage provides a good solution to this situation. However, the force level should be light and consistent. Herein we report a 33-year-old female patient who presented a Class II division 1 malocclusion with maxillary anterior crowding, protrusion, and …
