Pre-Orthodontic Radiography Of The Temporomandibular Joint, Stephen G. Tracey Dec 1986

Pre-Orthodontic Radiography Of The Temporomandibular Joint, Stephen G. Tracey

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

The dental profession has given increased attention to temporomandibular joint problems in recent years. Many orthodontists have shown professional concern by taking pretreatment lateral tomograms to assess developmental abnormalities, previous injury, pathology, and condylar position. The purpose of this study was to determine the consistency of orthodontists in evaluating lateral tomograms and panoramic films, particularly when used prior to treatment. Lateral tomograms and panoramic films of 60 single joints were evaluated by 4 orthodontists on two separate occasions. A questionnaire was completed for each radiograph observed and responses were compared for interobserver and intraobserver [aggreement]. Statistically, results showed little to …

Quick Ceph™, A Computer Program For Cephalometric Analysis And Treatment Planning, Günther Blaseio Jun 1986

Quick Ceph™, A Computer Program For Cephalometric Analysis And Treatment Planning, Günther Blaseio

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

The quantification of cephalometric radiographs is an integral part of orthodontic treatment planning. Numerous computer programs have been designed to digitize headfilms and to provide accurate graphic output and exact measurements. Yet these early systems were either huge, bulky and expensive or were limited in their practical use. The aim of this development was to combine modern computer and electronic equipment with advanced software engineering. The result is a universal cephalometric program written in the computer language "C" with presently seven standard and virtually limitless user definable analyses, growth forecasting, mouse-driven interactive VTO, arch length calculation, superimpositions, table of values …

Axial Morphology And Angulation Of The Condyle In Relation To Malocclusions In Different Age Groups, Gerald P. Tadej Jun 1986

Axial Morphology And Angulation Of The Condyle In Relation To Malocclusions In Different Age Groups, Gerald P. Tadej

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

Recent studies have shown that forces applied to the mandible during functional appliance and other orthodontic therapies produce measurable changes in the TMJ. It was postulated that specific malocclusions might also apply forces that could produce specific changes in the horizontal morphology of the TMJ. This study involved 104 pretreatment orthodontic patients, 44 males and 60 females. A submento-vertex analysis was performed and correlated with clinical findings including age, sex, malocclusion type, facial type, TMJ symptoms, tooth eruption sequence, crossbites and midline discrepancies. All possible correlations between the radiographic findings and the clinical malocclusions were tested with ANOVA. The width …
