Gentle Beginnings: Innovative Use Of Melatonin And Triclofos Sodium For Uncooperative Children-An Invivo Study, Rohan Shrivastava, Sonal Gupta, Charu Aggarwal, Akil Prawin S.S
International Arab Journal of Dentistry
Objectives: To compare the pre- and post-use of oral melatonin and oral triclofos as oral sedative drugs on anxiety, sedation, and cognitive and psychomotor function to perform satisfactory dental treatment on uncooperative children.
Methods: A total number of 100 patients aged between 4 and 9 years who were scheduled for dental treatment were randomly divided into two groups, Group I and Group II, and administered melatonin and triclofos sodium, respectively, to determine changes in anxiety, cognitive, psychomotor, and sedation scores pre- and post-treatment. Data were analyzed using an unpaired/paired t-test, and P < 0.05 was contemplated as statistically significant.
Results: Post-treatment assessments revealed a significant reduction in …
An Unusual Case Of Bilateral Upper And Lower Oral Cavity Cysts In A Newborn, Frances Rodriguez Lara, Jillian L. Chen, Jennifer N. Shehan, Jessica R. Levi
An Unusual Case Of Bilateral Upper And Lower Oral Cavity Cysts In A Newborn, Frances Rodriguez Lara, Jillian L. Chen, Jennifer N. Shehan, Jessica R. Levi
HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine
Background
Oral mucosal lesions in newborns have a broad differential diagnosis, ranging from benign, transient conditions to potential early signs of systemic disease. Most of these lesions are resolved without intervention, but delayed recognition can lead to complications, such as airway obstruction. Early identification is crucial for appropriate management. This case report discusses an unusual presentation of multiple oral mucosal cysts in a newborn, emphasizing the challenges of diagnosis and management.
Case Presentation
A 1-day-old male was evaluated at Boston Medical Center for cystic oral lesions identified during newborn screening. The infant was born at 36 weeks and 2 days’ …

Investigate The Role Of Tgfβ3 In Regulating Irf6 And Δnp63 In Periderm Desquamation, Nam Ha

Introduction: Failure in palatal fusion during palate development results in cleft palate, one of the most common birth defects in the US. During the final phases of palatogenesis, the palatal periderm (a protective cell layer that prevents premature fusion and adhesion with oral epithelium) must be removed, also known as desquamation. This process is a prerequisite for establishing the midline seam in the fused palate. Previous studies have shown that transforming growth factor-β3 (TGFβ3) plays an irreplaceable role in palate development in mice. Our previously published mechanistic models outline the role of TGFβ3 and its downstream signaling cascade involving proteins …

Electronic Theses & Dissertations (2024 - present)
Fibrosis is of significant concern to the medical community as numerous disease processes are characterized by progressive fibrosis leading to organ damage. We begin the process of examining the mechanism of fibrosis to salivary gland hypofunction and briefly consider Sjögren’s Disease (SjD). Method: We employed single-cell RNA sequencing data from a reversible mouse salivary gland injury model and from NOD/ShiLtJ mice, a model of secondary SjD. We performed treatment comparisons with the help of Seurat dotplots and UMAPS. Using differential gene expression analysis and the publicly available R packages: clusterProfiler, WikiPathways and Cytoscape, we identified the processes and pathways …

Preschools provide an efficient setting to promote the oral health of young children as children attend preschools on daily basis, the structures and system at preschools are established, and vital facilities for conducive oral health environment such as clean water supply and sanitation are already in place. Because of these promising potentials, the Ministry of Health (MOH), Malaysia has introduced the Preschool Oral Healthcare Programme (POHP) in 1984. This programme aims to improve the oral health status of children aged 5 to 6 years who attend preschools. To date, there has been no evaluation conducted on the POHP in terms …

Prevalence Of Dental Caries, Oral-Health Related Quality Of Life, And Oral Health Inequalities Among Libyan Pre-School Children In Benghazi, Lamis Abdelrahim Fathulla Ballo
Student Works (2020-2029)
Background: Dental caries persists as a public health problem that significantly affects individuals and societies. Oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) is significantly identified as a serious worldwide public health concern. Oral health inequalities exist in most countries, and these disparities in health vary between and within countries. Aim: This study aimed to investigate dental caries prevalence and experience, oral health related quality of life and oral health inequalities and the associated factors among six-year-old children in Benghazi, Libya. Methods: This study was a secondary data analysis of Benghazi Children Dental Health Survey conducted in the year 2017. The survey …

The Pharmacokinetic Of Silver Diamine Fluoride In Healthy Children With Dental Caries, Lim Siau Peng
Student Works (2020-2029)
Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is a medication used topically on carious tooth surfaces to arrest caries progression in both child and adult populations. This study aimed to determine the pharmacokinetic of SDF in 15 children who received SDF treatment. Urine samples were collected at baseline, and at first and second 24 hours after SDF treatment to determine silver and fluoride levels. Hair samples were collected at baseline, and at days 7, 14, 30, 60, 75, and 90 after SDF to assess silver levels. The median and interquartile range of urinary fluoride at baseline, first and second 24 hours after SDF …
