Objective: To compare the effects of ketorolac and dexamethasone on postoperative pain in patients who underwent impacted mandibular third molars surgery. Material and Methods: A double-anonymized clinical trial study involving 60 patients with impacted third molars. The samples were randomly divided into two groups by block randomization method: DG: Dexamethasone (8 mg) and KG: Ketorolac (30 mg). The severity of pain was assessed using the visual analog scale and Wong-Baker Faces Pain Rating Scale immediately and during the first to seventh days after the surgery. Maxillofacial arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are a rare condition in which arteries and veins are in continuity without a capillary bed in between, which poses a significant risk of severe bleeding. Intraosseous AVMs can lead to cortical bone expansion and facial deformity. Dental procedures may result in life-threatening bleeding risk if this condition is not recognized. Dental implantation is an increasingly common procedure used to treat missing teeth. However, surgical drilling to place the implant poses a high risk of injury to critical anatomy, such as inferior alveolar nerve injury or maxillary sinus perforation. A real-time surgical feedback system sensing proximity of these critical anatomy could reduce injury risks. This dissertation investigates the development of such a system that incorporates an electrical impedance sensor into the tip of a surgical drill.

Evaluation Of The Bone Thickness Of Mandibular Molars Using Cone Beam Computed Tomography, Deniz Yanık, Ahmet Mert Nalbantoglu

Objective: To investigate buccal and lingual bone thicknesses and fenestration rate of mandibular first and second molars using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT).
Methods: A total of CBCT images of 41 patients were selected and overall 120 mandibular molars were investigated. The buccal and lingual alveolar bone widths were measured at apex of the roots. The prevalence of fenestration in mandibular molars was recorded. Statistical analyses were performed.
Results: The buccal bone widths of mesial root of second molars were significantly lower than the lingual (p<0.05). The lingual bone widths of mesial and distal root of second molars were lower than the buccal (p<0.05). The lowest thickness of buccal and lingual bone was observed in mesial root of first molar and distal root of second molar. The prevalence of fenestration in mandibular first and second molars was 5% and 10%.

Non-syndromic orofacial clefts encompass a range of morphological changes affecting the oral cavity and the craniofacial skeleton, of which the genetic and epigenetic etiologic factors remain largely unknown. The objective of this study is to explore the contribution of underlying dentofacial deformities (also known as skeletal malocclusions) in the craniofacial morphology of non-syndromic cleft lip and palate patients (nsCLP). The aim of this case series, is to describe our surgical technique for reconstructing benign mandibular neoplasms using BMAC – a less invasive approach than traditional iliac crest bone graft harvest.
BMAC was used in combination with mineralized freeze-dried allograft, platelet rich plasma (PRP) & bone morphogenic protein (rhBMP-2) to reconstruct the hard tissue lost secondary to the ablative tumor resection.
- 10 patients included in the retrospective case series were treated between 2014 and 2017 by 3 surgeons.
- Mean age - 44 years (range - 19 to 77 years). BMAC was obtained from the anterior iliac crest (AIC).
