Objective: To compare the effects of ketorolac and dexamethasone on postoperative pain in patients who underwent impacted mandibular third molars surgery. Material and Methods: A double-anonymized clinical trial study involving 60 patients with impacted third molars. The samples were randomly divided into two groups by block randomization method: DG: Dexamethasone (8 mg) and KG: Ketorolac (30 mg). The severity of pain was assessed using the visual analog scale and Wong-Baker Faces Pain Rating Scale immediately and during the first to seventh days after the surgery. Results: Among the participants, 65% were female, and the mean age was 40.8 years. The …

Objective: To determine the prevalence of ECC and evaluate its association with possible risk factors in a group of preschool children in Kerman, Iran. Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Kerman on healthy preschool children (up to 6 years old) in June and October 2021. The children were randomly selected from kindergartens using a clustered sampling method, and their height, weight, dental caries, and occlusion were evaluated. Parents completed a questionnaire assessing feeding habits (breast/bottle feeding) and oral habits during the first two years of life. Data were analyzed by logistic regression and chi-squared test using SPSS …

The purpose of this study was to determine if there were correlations between the length of time from hospital admission to surgical intervention and the frequency of complications in patients with odontogenic infections. While odontogenic infection is well studied in terms of interventions and outcomes, less is known about hospital utilization and resource burden of odontogenic infection with respect to timeliness to intervention. A retrospective cohort analysis was used to examine correlations between time from admission to surgical intervention and clinical outcomes. Patients included in this study were divided into three categories of length of time to the operating room: …

Purpose: When RCT fails, retreatment of the case usually requires removal of the previous root canal fill (RCF). The aim of our research was to evaluate the retreatability of a root canal initially filled with gutta percha and EndoSequence® BCS™ HiFlow utilizing chloroform followed by 18% HCl, 18% HCl alone, chloroform alone or saline solution. Methods: 40 extracted single canal teeth were decoronated and obturated utilizing a single cone gutta percha technique and Endosequence BCS, stored one week in an incubator, and then we attempted to remove the previous RCF. Teeth were divided in 4 different groups (n=10). Canals were …

PURPOSE: To evaluate how build orientation affects the fabrication trueness of additively manufactured implant-supported complete arch prostheses by comparing them to subtractively manufactured high-impact polymer-based prostheses. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An edentulous maxillary model with four implants at canine and first molar regions bilaterally was digitized (ATOS Core 80 5MP) to design a reference implant-supported complete arch prosthesis standard tessellation language file (RF-STL). The STL file was used to manufacture prostheses additively in five different orientations according to the build platform (AM-0, 0-degree; AM-15, 15-degree; AM-30, 30-degree; AM-45, 45-degree; AM-90, 90-degree) or subtractively (SM-HIP, control) (n = 10). The prostheses were …

Background: Limited treatment options exist for damaged nerves and despite impressive advances in tissue engineering, scientists and clinicians have yet to fully replicate nerve development and recruitment. Innervation is a critical feature for normal organ function. While most organs are innervated prior to birth, a rare example of postnatal nerve recruitment occurs in the natural development of secondary teeth during adolescence. Many animals undergo postnatal shedding of deciduous teeth with development and eruption of secondary teeth, a process requiring recruitment of nerve and vasculature to each tooth pulp for viability. Here, the investigators created a novel model for the study …

Purpose: Proper management of the soft tissues around dental implants is crucial to their long-term function and esthetics. The purpose of this article is to report the survival rate of immediate posterior implants when using an immediate chair-side technique for custom healing abutments. Materials and Methods: The investigator implemented a retrospective case series analysis of a sample of 115 consecutive patients with 1 posterior dental implant placed between February 1, 2012 and December 9, 2014, in the author's private practice who underwent the previously published technique for immediate custom chair-side healing abutment fabrication. In this descriptive analysis, the primary outcome …

Background: China is the largest tobacco producer and has the highest number of tobacco consumers in the world. Extensive research has demonstrated the utility of social media for smoking cessation. WeChat is the most commonly used social media platform in China, but has not yet been utilized for smoking cessation interventions. The objectives of this study are (1) to evaluate the efficacy of a WeChat-based smoking cessation intervention; and (2) to examine a possible additive effect of integrating oral health and smoking-related information into a tailored, Transtheoretical Model (TTM) guided smoking cessation intervention. Methods: Eligible adults were recruited through WeChat …

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare length of hospital stay and opioid usage among head and neck surgery (HNS) patients treated with and without regional anesthesia for microvascular free-flap donor sites. Methods: The authors performed a retrospective cohort study for HNS patients undergoing microvascular free-flap reconstruction. The control group received no regional anesthesia. The experimental group had a regional anesthesia nerve block performed immediately before surgery. The primary outcome variable was length of stay, and the secondary outcome variable was total morphine milliequivalents. The data were analyzed using Student t tests, analysis of variance, Mann-Whitney U test, …
