Morphometric Evaluation Of The Styloid Process Using Cone-Beam Ct In A Central Anatolian Population, Melda Misirlioglu, Aslı Atacan Aslan
Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
Background: Accurate evaluation of craniofacial anatomy is essential for diagnostic planning. Variations of the styloid process (SP) provide anatomical data that guide evidence-based clinical and surgical decisions in the head and neck region.
Methods: Retrospective cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans retrieved from the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology were examined. SP length, medial angles, calcification patterns, and the radiomorphometric index were assessed.
Results: Middle-aged adults represented the majority of the sample. Gender had a statistically significant effect on SP morphology Type 1 was the most common bilaterally, followed by Type 2. Calcification patterns varied between genders …

Comparison Of Chatgpt, Claude Ai, And Dental Students In The Detection Of Artifacts On Panoramic Radiography, Elif Çeçen Erol, Ceren Aktuna Belgin, Gözde Serindere, Kaan Gunduz
Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
Background: Accurate radiographic diagnosis requires images obtained with proper technique. Artifacts are unwanted irregularities or densities not produced by the primary X-ray beam and may obscure anatomical details in radiographic images. This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the performance of ChatGPT, Claude AI, and intern dental students in detecting artifacts in panoramic radiographs (PRs).
Methods: Between January and December 2024, panoramic radiographs of 40 patients containing 74 artifacts (motion, mispositioning, airway/soft tissue, and foreign body/metal artifacts) were retrospectively evaluated. The artifact detection performance of ChatGPT-4.0, Claude AI 3.5 Sonnet, and intern dental students was subsequently evaluated and compared …
Evaluation Of Maxillary Posterior Teeth Proximity To The Adjacent Sinuses In A Turkish Subpopulation: Implications For Dental Education And Clinical Practice, Damla Yiğit, Gizem Dolaşir, Sabri Çelik, Rüya Sessiz, Raif Alan
Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the proximity of upper posterior tooth roots to adjacent sinus borders using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in a Turkish subpopulation and to assess dental students’ competence in identifying this anatomical relationship. Methods: CBCT scans of 171 patients were analyzed. The vertical relationship between premolars and molar roots, and the maxillary sinus (MS) border was categorized into four types (Type 0–3). Interrater agreement between three final-year dental students and an experienced radiologist was measured. Results: Type 0 was the most frequent classification, except for first molars, where Type 2 and Type 3 predominated. MS-root distances …
Comparison Of Pharyngeal Airway And Dentoskeletal Effects Of 2 And 4 Premolar Extraction Treatment In Adult Orthodontic Patients, Esra Genc, Ahmet Karaman
Comparison Of Pharyngeal Airway And Dentoskeletal Effects Of 2 And 4 Premolar Extraction Treatment In Adult Orthodontic Patients, Esra Genc, Ahmet Karaman
Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
Objective: This study aimed to compare pharyngeal airway and dentoskeletal effects of 2 and 4 premolar extraction treatments in adult patients separately for each gender. Methods: The study was conducted with 60 adults (26 males; 34 females) aged 18-35 years. Individuals were divided into 3 groups as non-extraction, 2-premolar extraction, and 4-premolar extraction. Pre-treatment (T0) and post-treatment (T1) dentoskeletal and pharyngeal airway measurements were performed on cephalometric radiographs. Results: A significant increase in nasopharyngeal airway (PNS-ad2) and anterior hyoid bone movement (CV3ai-H) was observed in the 4-extraction group; whereas in the 2-extraction group, inferior oropharyngeal airway (IAS) narrowing and hyoid …
