Purpose: The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of ceramic material type and thickness on opalescence before and after accelerated aging. Materials and methods: 180 all-ceramic slices were divided into three groups (n=60) according to the ceramic material (InCoris TZI, Empress CAD HT, and Empress CAD LT). Each group was further subdivided into four subgroups (n = 15) according to their thickness (0.5 mm, 0.8 mm, 1 mm and 1.2 mm).). CIE Lab coordinates were measured for each slice against black and white backgrounds using intraoral spectrophotometer and OP was calculated. All specimens were subjected to …

Objective: To study the effect of Collagen matrix Mucograft (CM) in enhancing the soft tissue thickness around immediate implants (II) in comparison to palatal connective tissue grafts (SCTG).
Subjects & methods: This randomized, controlled clinical trial included 16 patients, who were randomly divided into test (IIP +CM) and control (IIP+SCTG) groups. Clinical parameters evaluated at baseline, 3-months, and 6-months were papillary bleeding index (PBI), gingival index (GI), facial probing depth (FPD), palatal probing depth (PPD). Direct measurements of gingival thickness were evaluated at baseline and 6-months follow up. Pink esthetic score (PES) and white esthetic score (WES) were evaluated at …

Background: Dental zirconia has been widely used due to its superior mechanical properties. However, traditional etching techniques and surface treatments are generally ineffective on zirconia surfaces due to its inertness and lack of a silica phase. Hence, various surface treatments are applied to improve bonding to zirconia.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of three different surface treatments: low pressure air borne particle abrasion, selective infiltration etching and fusion sputtering on bond strength to both Tetragonal zirconia and Cubic zirconia.
Materials and Methods: Ninety two specimens of zirconia were used in this study. Two of …

Evaluation Of Dentin Micro-Hardness And Antibacterial Efficiency Against E.Faecalis After Irrigation With Sodium Hypochlorite Followed By Either Grape Seed Extract Or Edta: A Randomized In -Vitro Study, Yasmeen S. Mahmoud, Dalia A. Saba, Taheya A. Moussa
Future Dental Journal
Objectives: Evaluation of dentin micro-hardness, dentinal erosion and antibacterial efficiency against E.faecalis after irrigation with sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) followed by grape seed extract (GSE)solution versus irrigation with NaOCl followed by EDTA.
Materials and Methods: Regarding dentin micro-hardness test; 16 teeth were divided into 2 groups; intervention (5.25%NaOCl+13%GSE) and comparator (5.25%NaOCl+17%EDTA) groups. Each tooth was decoronated and sectioned vertically. Dentin microhardness was evaluated before and after irrigation at the coronal, middle and apical thirds. Representative specimens from the micro-hardness test were used for dentin surface examination using scanning electron microscope (SEM). For the evaluation of the antibacterial efficiency, 18 teeth were …

Fluoride Release Of Conventional Glass Ionomer Modified With Flax Fibers And Ethanolic Extract Of Propolis, Bassma Reda Abdelhafeez, Maha Ahmed Niazy, Essam Abdel Hafez Naguib, Sara Hany Younis
Future Dental Journal
Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the fluoride release of conventional glass ionomer (GI) modified with flax fibers and/or ethanolic extract of propolis (EEP) with and without thermo-cycling. Materials and Methods: 80 total discs of GI were prepared, 20 discs per group: Group (GI) conventional glass ionomer (control), Group (F) glass ionomer incorporated with 5% flax fibers, Group (P) glass ionomer incorporated with 1% ethanolic extract of propolis (EEP), Group (FP) glass ionomer incorporated with 5% flax fibers and 1% ethanolic extract of propolis (EEP). Fluoride release testing was performed after the first day and after 7 days. Results: …

The Effect Of Artificial Aging And Surface Treatments On Microtensile Bond Strength Of Resin Cement To Hybrid Ceramics, Engy I. Hassan Shohdy, Shereen A. Nossair, Amina M. Hamdy
Future Dental Journal
Purpose: To assess the effect of aging and various surface treatments on the microtensile bond strength of resin cement to two hybrid esthetic materials. Materials and Methods: Zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate (Celtra Duo, Dentsply Sirona, United States) and hybrid resin nanoceramic (Cerasmart TM, GC Corporation, Japan) blocks were cut into plates of 3 mm thickness. Each ceramic material was surface treated either with hydrofluoric acid etching and silane or with sandblasting and silane. A dual-cured adhesive resin cement (Panavia TM V5, Kuraray, U.S.A.) was utilized to bond the composite resin plates to the surface treated ceramic plates. The ceramic-composite resin blocks …

Objectives: Evaluation of antibacterial activity of glass ionomer restorative material (GIC) after impregnation of copaiba oil, nanosilver (NanoAg) and nanogold (NanoAu) and their consequent effect on the compressive strength. Methodology: The different antibacterial solutions were added to Fugi IX GI liquid at various concentrations; 50 μL, 100 μL, 150 μL, 200 μL and 250 μL. Antibacterial activity against streptococcus mutans was evaluated by agar diffusion test (ADT) and direct contact test (DCT). Compressive strength was assessed according to ISO specifications. Bactericidal effect of the different investigated antibacterial agents on S. mutans biofilms was evaluated using Conofocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM). …
