Investigation Of Patients' Use Of Non-Pharmacological Substances In Dental Pain Management, Neslihan Yılmaz Çırakoğlu, Özgenur Kaya

Journal of Dentistry Indonesia

Background: Dental pain is a complex condition influenced by biological, biochemical, environmental, and psychological factors. Before seeking professional care, many patients attempt to relieve dental pain using self-administered, non-medical agents. This study aimed to investigate patients’ use of non-pharmacological substances in dental pain management and to identify factors influencing these practices.

Methods: The questionnaire consisted of four sections addressing demographic characteristics, oral hygiene habits, pain characteristics, and pain-relief agents. Categorical variables were analyzed using Pearson’s chi-square test. Categorical data are presented as frequencies and percentages, while continuous data are expressed as mean ± standard deviation and median values. …

Endodontic Access Through Zirconia Crowns: A Comparative Evaluation Of 3d Guided Versus Free-Handed Techniques, Maryam Alrughaib Jan 2026

Endodontic Access Through Zirconia Crowns: A Comparative Evaluation Of 3d Guided Versus Free-Handed Techniques, Maryam Alrughaib

Theses and Dissertations

Objective:

Accessing canals through full-coverage zirconia crowns is challenging and may increase the risk of misdirection, excessive dentin removal, and prolonged chair time. Guided endodontic access has been proposed to improve efficiency and precision. This study compared the accuracy and time efficiency of guided versus free-hand endodontic access through zirconia restorations. The hypothesis was that guided access would enhance canal localization precision and significantly reduce access time.

Methods:

Thirty-two extracted maxillary premolars were restored with 1-mm–reduced monolithic zirconia crowns (3Y-TZP, Katana HTML, Kuraray, Japan) and mounted in Modupro models. Teeth were assigned to two groups (n = 16 each): guided …

Centering And Shaping Abilities Of Three Different Cross-Section Rotary Systems In Curved Canals Using Cbct, Sherif Shafik

Dentistry

ABSTRACT The aim of the study was to examine the centering and shaping abilities of the E3 Azure, T Blue and XPRS rotary devices in severely curved root canals utilizing CBCT. 51 mesial roots were used in this study, then distributed into three groups of 17 mesial canals each according to the instrumentation technique: T-Blue, E3 Azure and XPS. The final apical size of instrumentation was 30/0.04 for all groups. At 2 mm, all pairwise comparisons were statistically significant, with Azure showing the highest transportation, followed by T-Blue, and XPS showing the least (p< 0.001). At 4 mm and 6 mm, Azure and T-Blue showed significantly higher transportation than XPS (p< 0.001). For XP-Shaper files, centering ratios followed a descending order from 6 mm to 4 mm and were lowest at 2 mm, with all pairwise comparisons being statistically significant (p< 0.001). it was concluded that XPS show lesser transportation and better centering ability.

Journal of Dentistry Indonesia

Objectives: This study investigated the synthesis and partial characterization of phosphorylated chitosan extracted from the cuttlebone of Sepia aculeata (Orbingy, 1848) and evaluated its antimicrobial potential against oral pathogens. Methods: The synthesis of phosphorylated chitosan from Sepia aculeata cuttlebone involved several steps: cleaning, deproteinization, demineralization to extract chitin, deacetylation to produce chitosan, and phosphorylation to introduce phosphate groups. Phosphorylation enhances the properties of chitosan, making it a promising candidate for oral health applications. Phosphorylated chitosan was purified and characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) to confirm structural changes. This process enhances …

International Arab Journal of Dentistry

Dens invaginatus, also known as dens in dente, is a dental anomaly resulting from infolding the enamel organ into the dental papilla. Dynamic Navigation Systems (DNS) like Navident, offer real-time guidance during endodontic procedures, proving especially useful in complex cases, such as calcified canals or pulp obliteration. This case report presents a 13-year-old female, who reported the chief complaint of continuous pain in the upper left front tooth region. Based on the clinical and radiographical findings, a diagnosis of pulp necrosis and chronic periapical abscess in relation to maxillary canine (23) was established with dens invaginated palatal canal ( Oehler’s …

Esthetic Management Of Maxillary Anteriors With Complicated And Uncomplicated Fractures Using Different Fragment Reattachment Approaches, Lavanya A, Rajendra Kumar Tewari, Sharique Alam

Journal of Dentistry Indonesia

Appropriate management of anterior tooth fracture restores the function and aesthetics and provides a positive psychological impact for the patient. One of the most conservative approaches for such a restoration is reattachment; if a fracture fragment remains attached to the tooth and is available, as in young patients, immediate reporting helps preserve the vitality and long-term defense mechanism. Objective: This case report provides two cases with varied approaches for the management of complicated and uncomplicated crown fractures using reattachment procedures. Case report: During the clinical examination, the first case described the management of an uncomplicated fracture using the …

Journal of Dentistry Indonesia

The long-term clinical performance of restoration in endodontically treated teeth (ETT) is an essential yet complicated strategy to achieve it. A resin-build-up tooth with higher elastic moduli is a minimally invasive strategy to decrease the risk of catastrophic root fracture. Additionally, intracanal resin composite anchorage simplifies the restorative procedure and increases the bonding. Objective: This case report describes a resin-build-up tooth restoration using the direct monoblock concept to replace a failed metal post and core and porcelain fused to metal (PFM) crown on the maxillary right central incisor. Case report: A 50-year-old man attended a dental university hospital …

Endodontic Microsurgery Using Dynamic Navigation And Trephine Burs, Trenton Smith, Sameer Jain, Jeffery Nick Sanders, Michael Block, Mark Odom, Albert F. Mcmullen

School of Dentistry Faculty Publications

Objectives: The use of the surgical operating microscope, CBCT imagining, biocompatible filling materials and ultrasonic instruments have improved the success and predictability of apical surgery. Despite these advances, more accurate and precise techniques for creating osteotomies and root-resections (apicoectomies) have not been widely adopted. This study highlights how dynamic navigation systems (DNS) can help avoid unnecessary dentin removal and “mitigate iatrogenic errors” such as root perforation. Methods: A total of 56 root-end resections were planned and completed on two sets of identical TrueJaw Endosurg models (DE Labs, Santa Barbra, CA, USA). One set of maxillary and mandibular jaws were used …

Stratasys Printed 3-D Mandibular Molar With Tooth Anatomy And Texture, M. Austin White, Charles E. Taylor, Edwin Kee, Albert F. Mcmullen

School of Dentistry Faculty Publications

Introduction: We used CBCT scans of a human mandibular molar in concert with the Stratasys 3-D printer to fabricate said teeth with similar texture and hardness to enamel, dentin, and cementum. The printed tooth should also have the same crown and root anatomy, as well as root canal anatomy of the scanned tooth. Methods: One mandibular first molar was scanned (Carestream Dental CS 9600 CBCT) and printed (Stratasys 3D multi-material printer). A (Micromet 5104) hardness tester was used to test the hardness of the printed tooth. Nine combinations of two different materials (Stratasys’ Vero Pure White and Agilus 30 Clear …
