Dysplasia In Oral Lichen Planus In A Sample Of Egyptians Attending 2 Tertiary Care Centers In Cairo, Dalia Ghalwash, Ayman El-Gawish

Dentistry

The present retrospective study aimed to evaluate dysplastic changes in oral lichen planus (OLP) lesions and related risk factors in a sample of Egyptians. The records of patients with histological diagnosis of OLP, who attended the Oral Medicine and Periodontology Department, Faculty of Dentistry, Cairo University, and Faculty of Dentistry, the British University in Egypt, in the period from 2020 to 2023 were used. The frequency of dysplasia was 10.19% and was statistically not associated with age, gender or smoking. Our results showed that the erosive type registered the highest rate (p<0.001), followed by atrophic, whereas papular type did not show dysplasia. Also, the most common site for dysplasia was the buccal mucosa and tongue (p<0.001 and p=0.001, respectively), then gingiva, lips, and floor of the mouth. Given the importance of OLP, among the Egyptian population seeking care in our clinics, more research should be conducted to create a database of statistical information.

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

This study aimed to evaluate the impact of multimedia and verbal information on patients' knowledge, anxiety, and decision-making regarding dental implant surgery, focusing on comparing computer-assisted and freehand techniques. This randomized controlled trial involved 100 patients divided into two groups: one receiving multimedia information (n=50) and the other receiving verbal information (n=50). Data were collected through self-administered questionnaires assessing patients' baseline information, knowledge, anxiety, and decision-making before and after receiving information about dental implant surgery techniques. Results showed significant increases in knowledge scores for both groups, with the multimedia group improving from 1.96 to 3.90 (p<0.001) and the verbal group from 2.0 to 3.98 (p<0.001). Anxiety levels decreased significantly in both groups, with reductions from 12.76 to 11.48 (p=0.001) in the multimedia group and from 13.92 to 12.16 (p<0.001) in the verbal group. The proportion of patients who decided to proceed with dental implant surgery increased from 70% to 78% in the multimedia group and from 54% to 66% in the verbal group. After receiving the information, more patients in both groups opted for computer-assisted implant surgery, though treatment costs remained a significant concern for some, leading to declines in surgery acceptance. Despite these findings, no significant differences were observed between the multimedia and verbal groups regarding knowledge improvements, anxiety reduction, or decision-making. In conclusion, multimedia and verbal information effectively enhanced patient knowledge and reduced anxiety about dental implant surgery, and both methods may influence patients' decisions regarding their preferred implant technique, with no significant differences between the two methods.

Accuracy Of Intraoral Scanner For Centric Relation Record In Comparison To Vinyl Polysiloxane, Rawinan Luangsukrerk Jan 2024

Accuracy Of Intraoral Scanner For Centric Relation Record In Comparison To Vinyl Polysiloxane, Rawinan Luangsukrerk

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

The study aimed to compare the accuracy of digital centric relation (CR) recordings from intraoral scanners with conventional CR bite registration through a quantitative comparison of occlusal contacts. This cross-sectional study involved 29 healthy adults. CR was recorded using the bimanual manipulation technique, guided by silicone bite indexes (Silagum-Putty; DMG, Germany). Conventional bite registrations were made with vinyl polysiloxane (O-Bite; DMG, Germany), and digital interarch relationships were captured using an intraoral scanner (iTero Element 2; Align Technologies, USA). The maxillary and mandibular arches were digitized with the intraoral scanner, and CR was recorded through the silicone bite index. Each recording …

Cbct Perceptions Of Radiology Leaders In The Midwest Dental Schools: A Qualitative Study, Tenzin Dadul

Dissertations

Problem

The integration of Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) in dental education is hindered by a lack of formal training among radiology leaders, insufficient institutional support, and financial constraints. Despite the proven efficacy of CBCT in enhancing diagnostic accuracy and treatment planning, its adoption in pre-doctoral curricula remains limited. This gap in education poses significant challenges for dental graduates, who are increasingly expected to utilize advanced imaging technologies in clinical practice.

Purpose of Study

This qualitative study aimed to explore the perceptions of radiology leaders in Midwest dental schools regarding the integration of CBCT education into pre-doctoral curricula. The objectives …

Clinical Significance Of Gutta Percha Variability, Alex R. Pancake Jan 2024

Clinical Significance Of Gutta Percha Variability, Alex R. Pancake

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Introduction: The production of gutta percha points as root canal therapy filling materials vary from hand processing to machine processing with a range of acceptable levels of error (tolerance). Similarly, endodontic files manufactured to complement corresponding gutta percha points exhibit specified levels of tolerance. Investigations into the consistency among manufacturers of files and gutta percha points is limited. The aim of this study is to see how variability in apical gauge and taper of gutta percha points affected the clinical performance during cone try in. The null hypothesis of this study is that there is no difference in two gutta …
