The Impact Of Sickle Cell Disease On Gingival Bleeding And Oral Health Of Adults, Natalie Roa
The Impact Of Sickle Cell Disease On Gingival Bleeding And Oral Health Of Adults, Natalie Roa
Honors Undergraduate Theses
Oral health may serve as an indicator of overall systemic health, with each disease or condition manifesting differently in the oral cavity. Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a genetic disorder in which sickled red blood cells cause blood vessel occlusion and potentially bleeding in specific sites (e.g., gastrointestinal and intracranial bleeding). With SCD being one of the most common hereditary diseases in the world, it is essential to understand the disease and improve awareness to better treat this population. While studies have been done to evaluate the oral health of persons with SCD, few have explored the occurrence of gingival …

Alteration In Facial Contour Associated With Aging: Case Report, Bohan Lin Ba, Dds, Louis Mandel Dds
Alteration In Facial Contour Associated With Aging: Case Report, Bohan Lin Ba, Dds, Louis Mandel Dds
The New York State Dental Journal
The authors examined a 73-year-old female because of a chief complaint of bilateral swellings of the parotid gland. After detailed questioning, the authors determined that the perceived facial swelling was caused by the inferior displacement of separate and identifiable facial fat compartments. Aging coupled with gravity results in both a compartmental and intracompartment inferior displacement of facial fat. Long-lasting fillers injected intra-or extra-compartmentally also partake in this inferior migration.

The Influence Of Extracellular Matrix On Human Periodontal Ligament Stem Cell Properties, Daneeya Na Nan
The Influence Of Extracellular Matrix On Human Periodontal Ligament Stem Cell Properties, Daneeya Na Nan
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The periodontal ligament (PDL) is a crucial tissue connecting teeth to surrounding alveolar bone, withstanding the mechanical forces of mastication, speech, and deglutition. The extracellular matrix (ECM) of the PDL plays a critical role in maintaining PDL cell stability and function in response to external forces. Mechanotransduction, the process by which cells convert mechanical signals into biochemical signals, is essential for PDL cells to sense and respond to mechanical stimuli. The ECM is a critical mediator of mechanotransduction, as it is responsible for transmitting mechanical forces to cells and regulating cellular responses to mechanical stress. Matricellular proteins, such as periostin …

Biomarkers Of Inflammation And Oxidative Stress In The Prediction And Management Of Acute Coronary Syndrome, Udaya Ralapanawa, Sivakanesan R
Health Sciences
The assessment of patients presenting with chest pain or symptoms indicative of cardiac ischemia remains a diagnostic challenge. Many types of research have focused on the search for ideal biological markers for the rapid detection of cardiac cell injuries. Markers of inflammation and oxidative stress are the way forward. At present, the biomarker most widely used for diagnosing acute coronary syndrome is cardiac troponin though it has some limitations. Apart from cardiac troponin, several other biomarkers, especially inflammation and oxidative stress markers in acute coronary syndrome, have been investigated. However, most of them still require validation in further studies. As …

Comparison Of Outcome Between Non-Submerged And Submerged Implant With Simultaneous Bone Augmentation In Esthetic Zone, Nuntapat Banomyong
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Objectives: To compare the dimensional changes in the buccal bone thickness of implant placement with simultaneous bone augmentation in the esthetic zone between non-submerged and submerged implants. Materials and methods: Twenty-four patients with a single edentulous area in the esthetic zone were randomly assigned into two groups which were submerged (cover screw) and non-submerged groups (healing abutment). After implant placement, the peri-implant defects were treated by simultaneous GBR. The cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans were taken post-operative immediately (T0) and subsequent at 3 (T3) and 6 (T6) months after implant placement. Vertical buccal bone level (VBL) and horizontal buccal bone …

Development Of Polymer Blends Of Poly(Methyl Methacrylate) And Poly(Lactic Acid) As Denture Base Material, Taksid Charasseangpaisarn
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Nowadays, poly(lactic acid) (PLA) usage in dentistry is increasing due to its mechanical and physical properties close to those of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). However, the thermal properties of PLA is poor due to its low glass transition temperature, which leads to distortion when used in high temperatures. The blending of polymers is an easy and cost-effective method to improve the desired properties of polymers. The objective of this study was to develop the PMMA/PLA blend in various compositions for use as denture base materials. The three PMMA/PLA blend compositions (M75, M50, and M25) were conducted by melt blending with a …
